Try the Admiral restaurant a 20 yard walk from the place we stayed at, about a 10 minute walk from the hostel. they do all kinds of food, at a very good price. between 3 of us, we had 2 courses each and shared a bottle of wine and it came to 31kn(£3) each.

This place was awesome. It was a few shops to the left and across the street from the bus terminal. I went there all the time and ate a bunch of ice cream and drank a lot of milkshakes. They'll let you watch the soccer matches and they talked to me all throughout the game.

Karlovacko is my favorite beer. It is really cheap (35 cents for quart or so), and it's good. I suggest going to the corner store, buy a bunch of them, getting some pizza or bread, and then watching TV, it's great.

You can have mussels anywhere! They are not too expensive but taste much better than anywhere else. If you like having mussls living in N. America, you will think this is heaven. (just a sec, let me wipe the drool off my chin...)
Also, make sure you go out to eat mussles during the full moon... they expand withing the shell and are 2X the regular size, so for the same money you get twice the pleasure:))) (most are taken from the sea hours before hitting your table)

Fish and Chips Foggy: Kandlerova Ulica 44. 8-15.00, 18.00-22.00.
Seafood, 5KN-20KN. Perhaps the smallest restaurant in the world, this
tiny hole in the wall only big enough to fit a oven and fridge sells cheap
seafood, rolls and chips. An excellent option that is proven by the huge
line always outside it. Highly Rec
Access: From the bus station head south on Carrarina ulica for 2 min,
then turn west on Kandlerova Ulica.
The Bounty: Veronska 8. M-F10.00-23.00, Sa13.00-21.00,
Su14.00-20.00. Irish, 12KN-40KN. The most popular place in town for
all the young students. Every town had an Irish pub, and this one is
better than most. Excellent rustic atmosphere where the locals eat
such dishes such as 'Shepherds pie' and 'bangers and mash'. Many
ex-pats come here also.
Access: From bus station head east down Istarska Ulica. When you
see Flanaticka ul, looking west head up the street, Vereonska is off this
street.
Orfey: Kandlerova 6. 10.00-22.00. Italian, 10KN-30KN. Popular Italian
outdoor restaurant that has excellent seafood and pasta. It is a bit more
expensive than other restaurants, but the servings are large.
Access: From the bus station head south on Carrarina ulica for 2 min,
then turn west on Kandlerova Ulica.

In the old city, we found a great restaurant serving Croatian dishes...it made a change from pizza and pasta. I think the name was Barbara's, although don't quote me on that...and I haven't got a clue wherabouts in the old city it was! I can tell you the location of the picture though...it is one of the former gates to the city, called Slavoluk Sergijevaca. (thanks to Croisbeauty for the name!)
