Pula - Croatia

Originally from the 6th century, escaping from demolitions and bombs, this small chapel, standing beside a small garden that occupies the area of a quarter erased in WW2, was built in Ravenna's style.

It seems that it had some rich mosaics that were moved to the Archaeological Museum of Istria.

Twin Gates and city walls

Pula - Croatia

Imagine a medieval barricade, built in a hurry, while the enemy approaches: Everything possible is used, and so, stones, pillars and maybe statues were piled in despair.

Time passed and the now useless walls were destroyed, but a small part stands, by the kept twin doors. Browse the walls - Impressive!

Harbor View with hundreds of sailboats

This is a very nice place and is centrally focused to see things in the old town and also be out on the fringe for those resorts. Besides this marina and the surrounding area of hotels, there are other vacation/resort areas called Medulin and Premantura that are similar, and along the same road; Ulica Veruda

Entry to the aquarium

This is a history of being built during the Austrian era as a fort in 1886 called Fort Verudela. Today this started to become an aquarium in 2002, and has evolved into tow levels now and has 60 pools for sea life. WE did not go inside because of little time. The entry is around $8 and it looks like they still are in process of promoting the sites. It states to be open 10-6 off season and 9-10Pm during summer months.

Beach by the hotel on the Veruda peninsula
1 more image

There are beaches on the harbors by the boats around Marina Veruda and near the upscale hotels. Access is through a public park for one beach, and others may be semi-private? For the most part, the beaches are rock, not sand and a number have only rock ledges to sit on far up from the water.

Market stalls set up all over

This is the hub of so much activity, it will make your head spin. The market stretches about three blocks in two directions, and literally hundreds to thousands are on the move to buy, or walking by to shop at upscale stores in the area. There are so many outdoor restaurants besides all the other things to see/buy. The Arsenal building dates back to 1856, and when it really was an arsenal. Now, like so many other cities, this is a shopping retail center in the midst of it all.
The main street is called DAlmatinova Ulica and runs to Trg Republic, another busy intersection
