Hum, the smallest town in the world ?

by JLBG

Click here to visit my page on Hum, the smallest town in the world ?Hum is situated 15 km southeast of Buzet. It prides itself of being the world smallest's town. There are obviously smaller cities, but this is not really important to be number one smaller town in the world! THE smallest or one of the smallests, does not matter as far as Hum IS a nice city to visit.

Buzet

by JLBG

Click here to visit my page on Buzet, city of trufflesBuzet lies at the foot of the Cicarija Mountain, in Northern Central Istria, not far from the source of the river Mirna. The old part of the town is on an isolated hilltop, 151 m high. The Romans named the settlement Pinquentum that explains that the istriot/Italian name of the city is Pinguente, rarely used. It was fortified in the Middle Ages by the Venetians, who gave it its present shape. The two town gates are well preserved, the Big Gate dating back to 1547, the Small Gate to 1592. It is a small town (6;059 inhabitants) that prizes itself as "the city of truffles"

During the Tito's rule in ex-Yugoslavia the archipelago of Brijuni, although declared as National Park, was closed for the public visitors. Since early nineties of the last century, almost 15 years after Tito died, NP Brijuni is opened for the public visitors, foreigners included. Many says, it is the most beautiful archipelago in whole Mediterranean and the world aswell. Do not miss it when visiting Istria.

Pula - the church of St. Mary Formosa

by croisbeauty

Actually, what you see on this picture are remains of the Complex of Basilica of St. Mary Formosa built in the 6th century. It was the largest and most important building erected in Pula during Byzantine rule. The Venetians afflicted heavy damage as early as 13th century. Unfortunately, only the south funerary chapel that was annexed to the church has managed to survive completely.

Pula - the Arch of Sergeius

by croisbeauty

The triumphal arches are typical and very characteristic signs of Roman presence and could be seen everywhere in the world where Romans have ruled. The highness of the arch and its decorations depend on how important and rich the person in who's honour it is built was. The Arch of Sergeius in Pula is of medium proportions.

Vrsar/Orsera

by JLBG

Visit Vrsar !Vrsar, Orsera in Istro-romanian dialect and in Italian, was the residence of the bishops of Porec. The small fishermens' village is now a major tourists center. The harbour has recently extended to a modern marina. Though, the old city (stari grad), on the hill has kept it's character. The quay that links the old harbour to the marina is decorated with flower beds and art works. The outstanding marina receives in Summer many sailing boats and motor boats.
