Vrsar Things to Do

  • Explore back alleys

That's me exploring the back alleys of the town of Vrsar, 25 May 2012. There's so much to discover here as no two houses are the same and there's an astonishing variety in round arches, bay windows, balconies, lintels and every kind of masonry work.

  • Church of St Martin

Try to visit this church on Sunday---they have a beautiful service in the morning---when I visited they had some singers and an organ player---I did not climb the tower but the views are probably fine of the harbour below. There is also a small cafe right in front where you can get a coffee or drink in the shade.

  • St Anton Church

This old Church in Vrsar is almost to the top of the hill, and shares a square with the main Tourist office, one of the old gates to the city, and a wonderful place called Ladonja, where you can get a beer, soda or coffee and sit in the middle of the square and rest after the big climb up! Vrsar is built on this hill with the main church at the...

The church of St. Martin towers above the harbour in Vrsar. The foundations of the church were laid in 1804 but not completed until 1935 when it was consecrated on March 19th.The bell tower although planned at the same time as the church, was not built until 1991

  • The Church of Our Lady of the Sea ?

This unsophisticated small church is close to the sea, between the harbor and the marina. It should be the Church of Our Lady of the Sea that dates back to the 12th century. However, I have not visited it to check its identity. I will next time.

  • Sveti Foska or Sveti Anton ?

The church of Saint Foska, together with Saint Martin the patron of Vrsar, was built in 17th century at the same time as the church of Saint Anton. I feel this is Saint Foska but I will have to check to be sure. In the summer, concerts are held in Saint Foska.

  • Another old well !

This other old well has not been removed from its original place and left in situ, which is always more realistic, when it is possible. Though neither is it anymore more in use, there is no wonder that it fits perfectly so very well in a surrounding where it has always been !

  • Old well ?

The top of an old well has been removed from where it was, saved, transported and sealed at the junction of two streets. It makes a perfect mini garden to grow roses, given that it is watered often enough !

To go down from the top of the hill with Sveti Martin church and the bell tower, you have to follow the street that goes towards the north east of the city. The picture shows one of the few places where it is possible to park a car in the old town.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I had 3 wonderful meals (midday) at Trost, right on the main harbour of Vrsar with views galore! Some of what I had included fresh grilled clams, fresh oysters (some of the best I have ever had!) as well as salads and good local beer. The breeze and the views are hard to beat!

Favorite Dish: Incredibly fresh raw oysters from the bay and local beer!

Margarita (located between Vrsar & Funtana).
    - This place is packed during the season and is known to host popular bands/singers as well as Miss. Vrsar, Miss. Topless.... and such. It is definitely a popular spot for tourist and most likely the best place to get some 'action'.

    Internacional (located in Zelena Laguna).
    - This club is probably the oldest running club in the Porec area. It caters mostly to tourists staying in that area and the prices are a little higher than everywhere else.

Colonia (in Porec -Novo Naselje/Naftaplin area)
    - Mostly locals (very friendly!)but also the most fun place around. Most weekends, Colonia features live bands and or Dj's. The bar is right on the beach and is open concept.

There are other places such as Models, Villa Porec, Tequila and such, which are cosy and intimate...
    Depends what you like...:)

Dress Code: Dress code is casual almost everywhere.

There is a small "Tourist Train" of about 4 cars (like a Kiddie train) that can take you to the top of the hill, for those who cannot make it on their own. It has a small cost, but the walk can be very stressing for some with handicaps. They pick up at the harbour parking lot and also at some stops along the way to the top.

  • Pilgrin

This is the only wooden statue among those that are scattered in Vrsar. It looks as a kind of pilgrim or a traveler, holding a tambourine in his right hand. Unfortunately, I could not take a good picture as it was in the shade and a car was parked that I could not avoid.

  • Menhir in Vrsar ?

Isn't it looking like a small menhir (I mean one of these standing stone found especially but not only in the Celtic countries) ? Actually, I would not be surprised if the artist wanted to make a kind of replica of the campanile that tops the town.

In late evening, fishing boats, which were anchored in the southern part of the harbor, outside the marina (the marina is on the right of the picture), sail for a night fishing. They will come back early, tomorrow morning, hopefully with a good load of fish !

  • Marina, next pier

On the contrary, on the outer pier, only sail boats are moored. They are my favorites but unfortunately, the pier is not allowed for those who only want to admire the boats. Now, it is how are all new marinas ! Too bad !

  • Marina, motor boats pier

This pier seems to be designed only for motorboats. In the background, the other side of the bay can be seen with the ''Belvedere''. In the evening, during the whole summer, the quay on the other side of the bay is crowdie and very touristy.
