This cousy restaurant is on top of a hill near the beach of Medveja. The place can be found in the middle of nature, with a beautiful garden around and lots of birds making noise. This pizzeria is not in the city center, but a citizen of the town advised me to go here. And it was a good decision because they have marvelous pizza. Marun is a special rare sort of chestnut that can be found only in this part of Croatia, between Ika and Moscenicka Draga. Otherwise, marun can only be found in some locations in Italy and Spain.
Since 1973 each year a festival is held in honour to this sweet chestnut. It starts somwhere in the middle of octobre, when maruni are ripe. It's a gasronomic and cultural event. Main dishes are cakes and sweets made with maruni. My favourite is a cake in a form of a heart made out of maruni puree and covered with chockolade sauce. You can also try Chestnut blossom Honey brandy. Every restaurant and cafe has a rich selection of cakes.
The visitors are kept entertained by entertainment program: famous Lovran Wind Orchestra music, folk and music ensembles from Istria and Kvarner, animators, prize competition, exhibitions... You can participate in picking up chestnuts, lectures about their healing characteristics, and taste traditionally prepared delicacies of nature - numeral food and sweetmeat of Lovran chestnuts.
Just south of Lovran the most beautiful beaches of this part of Croatia can be found. The village has two long crescents of shingles: one can be pretty crowded and is near a large campsite. The campsite is beautifully located in a narrow valley with rocks and forests on both sides. It's possible to hire a little house on the campsite and there are some little shops and a restaurant on it as well.
The other beach is on walking distance a little more to the South (behind the rocks with the little palace and minigolf). This one is more quiet and is partly used as a nudist beach. A little river is flowing in the sea and when we were there, young people were camping wild in the forest next to the beach.
Fondest memory: Sitting on the beach in the evening with the little noise of the river that flows into the sea and the sun slowly disapearing behind Mount Ucka.
