From the center of Opatia, it's only a 15-30 minutes walk to the village of Volosko. Volosko is almost the opposite of Opatia: no mass tourism, no huge buildings and hotels, no grandeur. Just a simple fishing village but with a great atmosphere, because it is built on the steep coast. The stone and white-washed houses in Italian style and the narrow streets give it a feel of being back in ancient times. There are some good fish restaurants along the waterfront at the beginning and the end of the village so you don't need to get back to Opatia for that.

This place is the perfect place if you are done with the luxury restaurants in Opatia. It is a tiny place: visitors have only abou 2 sq metres of space to eat their meal (standing) and the kichen is about the same size. But the yoiung staff is very nice and easy to have fun with. And the hamburgers they serve a really huge: you will forever feel betrayed with the ones you usually get at Mc Donalds.
Favorite Dish: Huge Cheeseburger for EUR 1,70

After visiting Volosko, you can head further North-East to the campsite of Preluk, which is another 15-30 minutes walk. In Preluk the there are lots of possibilities to spend the evening and night: a restaurant, bars like Quorum, a disco Fun Academy and a nice sunset. On thursdays and fridays in summer it is very popular with gays, so fun is guaranteed.

If you don't want to visit Rijeka, you better go out of the train in Matulji - instead of going to the main railway station of Rijeka. The tiny station is about 10 minutes from the station of Rijeka but all international trains stop here. It's 4 kms from the center of Opatia, but it's much more quiet and it's very easy to take a city bus from here to the center of Opatia. If your luggage is not too heavy, you can even walk from here, because the surroundings are very nice to walk through. Go out of the station through the narrow path on the coastside - which is actually the backside of the station. From here it is just a few minutes to to main road and the little center of Matulji, where the busses to Rijeka and Opatia stop.
