The main towngate can also be found near the harbour and loggia. In the front side of the gate you can see a large city clock. If you walk through the towngate, you come on a little square with the church of Sveta Marija Snjezina. The church has a rainaissance facade. Inside the church is a beautiful 15th century pieta.
The harbour is dating from the 15th century. In summer biggger sailing ships with tourists lay in the seaside of teh harbour. The inner harbour is used by fishermen with tiny boats. Around the harbour are some squares and quays with old, colourful painted houses and you can see the townwall. Next to the inner harbour is the 16th century loggia that is nowadays used as a fruit market. Southwards of the harbour i a bigger yaught harbour.

Three times a week there is a fast Passenger Catamaran from Cres Town to Rijeka and Mali Losinj. The boat follows the route Rijeka-Cres-Martinšæica-Unije-Susak-Mali Lošinj. You can check the times and prices on the website of Jadrolinija (see below).
The ferry from Brestova, south of Opatia alng the Istrian coast, to Porozine in the North o Cres Island, goes every hour. There are frequent busses leaving from Rijeka and passing Opatia, on the ferry to Porozina and then all the way to the South through Cres town to Mali Losinj. The ferry is included in the price of the bus, but you need to pay a little extra for the luggage. It's already quite scary when the bus goes down the hill to Brestova, but the most spectacular is the small road from Porozina to Cres over the top of the steep hills, with an amazing view on the Kvarner Bay.
It's very relaxing to make a walk on the island and smell the herbs that grow everywhere. You can follow the coast or follow a trail though the forest. We picked herbs and used it for the sheep meat that we bought in Cres town.
Equipment: Good shoes, waterbottle
We enjoyed the sun on the beach so we had time to relax and write postcards for friends. There is a rocky nude beach between to the campsite Kovacine and the holiday houses of Turisticko Naselje Gavza.
Fondest memory: Making a jump into the cold sea after becoming so hot from laying in the sun ... and then realising it'sonly the 1st of May!
