 | Otok Krk Local Customs | Tips 1 - 8 of 8 | | Popular Local Customs | Other Local Customs Tips | All Tips (8) Every autumn, usually during the third week of October, the Days of Olives festival is taking place in Punat, to mark the olives picking season. Restaurant Marina, located in Marina Punat, offers great food - all you can eat, self-service, every day from 12 to midnight. So what's on the menu? Everything with olives or olive oil or both. So many things to sample - I was very careful (done this few years ago) so I took only a tiny little portions, but I just couldn't munch through it all. We sat and ate for 3 hours, slowly, flushing it down with good wine, regular music intermezzos with excellent Klapa singers (sing along - may help you burp, so you can eat more) but I still couldn't sample all dishes. So just a short list of my favorite dishes: Squid salad, calamari salad, marinated mackerel, fish pate, tuna salad Dried prosciutto ham, cured meat, local hard sheep cheese, same cheese in honey, served with grapes (soo ancient greekish!) Bread, different styles, also with chunks of olives inside Octopus stew, lamb roast, lamb goulash, Grilled fish, fish stew, soups Grilled peppers, cabbage with potatoes, baked potatoes, polenta, “surlice” pasta Olives, olives, olives, all sorts of fresh salads Grapes, tangerines, dried figs etc Fritule, krostule, walnut roll, kuglof, and all other cakes How much? 98 Kunas = 14 Euros or 17 USD per person. There exist long time tradition of fishing on island of Krk and the local fishermen are very skillful. The sea-water around the island of Krk is very rich of all kind of fishes and in particularly of scamps. Since the coastal part of the island is mostly rocky with numerous caves, it is the natural habitation of the scamps. This two fishermen, on the picture, are checking their nets before pulling it out. Leave a Comment

The small courtyard, right in front of the entrance to the house, is in particularly attractive. One don't need to be well known architect to built such a beauty. Wonderful staircase lead to the first floor where extraordinary balcony stands in the perfect harmony. There are number of almost museums exibits displayed in the small courtyard, fascinating! You have probably noticed it when visiting my pages, I don't like much the contemporary architecture. This stone house can be seen in the town of Njivice and is unfortunately one of the few left in the place. It is, as far as I am concerned, the most beautiful stone house I've seen in whole island, looks almost like an museum. Do not miss it when visiting the island of Krk, it is easy to find situated in the old core of the village. Leave a Comment

It almost looks like a kind of competition towards the locals, who is going to cultivate the more beautiful roses. This one is the rose garden in Omišalj with unique colours of the flowers and of exceptional beauty. Too bad you cannot sniff at the roses, trust me, the flavour is unique. Leave a Comment
