 | Otok Krk Off the Beaten Path | Tips 1 - 10 of 18 | | Popular Off the Beaten Path | Other Off the Beaten Path Tips | All Tips (18) One day we walked - actually we just wanted to go along the beach for a few minutes and finally after more than one hour we ended up in a wonderful corner with a great beach and cristal clear water. Of course we swam there. My recommendation: Don't forget your bathing stuff there, even if you just want to walk for a few minutes ;-) Btw.: The water you can see on the pic is about 2 meters deep. Lovely trip for riders - from riding school situated on the main road between Omisalj and Njivice to Biserujka cave. It's a 1,5 hrs ride through fields and forest, just enough not to get too tired. Biserujka cave is cool (10-12'C) and not too long. Horses are calm and not nervous about local dogs barking. However, two of the horses would not cross short bridge made of iron grid so they had to stay at the car parking 50 meters away. Total duration of the trip was over 5 hours, price is negotiable - depending on the number of riders, but lower than regular hourly fee. Leave a Comment Phone: 00 385 (0)91 557 8261

A monument of great cultural significance, the Baška Tablet from the year 1100, found in the church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor nearby Baška. The inscribed stone slab tells us of King Zvonimir's donation of a piece of land to the Benedictine abbey in the time of abbot Držiha. It is written in glagolistic alphabet in Old Croatian. The original is kept in the Croatian Academy of Science and Art and is considered to be the birth certificate of the Croats, as the name Croatia is mentioned for the first time in the Croatian language. I've stoped at the top of the hill, near town of Punat, waiting for sun to go down. As a most you, I like to make sunset pictures anytime it's possible. All the sudden I've heard the airplane rumour up on the sky and that was an Canader going back in the base. Leave a Comment

The church of St. Lucy is graced by a main altar with the 14th century wooden polyptych by Luca and Giovanni, the sons of Paolo Veneziano. In the church today there is a facsimile of the Baška Tablet, kept in the same place where the original was. Baška Tablet is important for Croatian history, mentioning as it does for the first time the name of a Croatian king Zvonimir (1075-1089), as well as the world Creoatian. Leave a Comment

The church of St. Lucy was built at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries, on the remains of an early christian church. St. Lucy is the most interesting church of the whole of Krk and indeed of Croatia, for in the famed and extremely valuable 11th century stone slab called the Baska Tablet. It contains an old Glagolitic inscription, which is of particular importance for Croatian history and culture. Leave a Comment

This is the entrance into the church of St Lucy, which is pretty much unusual. Actualy, the entrance looks like an low and narrow passage, something I've never seen before. I have visited all ancient churches of Croatia but no one have the type of the entrance like St. Lucy. Leave a Comment Phone: I

Worth to be seen if nothing because of the beutiful view you can enjoy from upside! It is accessible by car but the road is very narrow so walking is the more advisable! You will need not more than half an hour from the village Batomalj (about 2 km from Baska and oposite to the village Jurandvor - where the Baska tablet was found). Leave a Comment

On the location of Mirine, nearby the town of Omišalj, the important founds from the 5th and 6th century A.D. can be seen. On the margins of Fulfinum in the 5th century emerged a grand Early Christian complex. The vast church is preserved, bell tower and atrium with early christian graveyard. The whole complex is part of the UNESCO world heritage. Leave a Comment
