    great spot for watching people

by picek Updated Apr 21, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Climbed above the Great waterfall on the rock through which it falls deepest - and saw a playful sight through tree branches - of people watching it very deep below, in an interesting colorful mass; this has been one of my favourite shots from the NP of that trip; on a terrace in front, there's popular spot for taking pictures, to watch the fall, to feel a little sprinkled by gentle drops - the obvious stop for every visitor... I only hope that while you're 'seeing' the beauty through a viewfinder of your camera and document it on your memory card or film, that you actually don't forget to look at it with your very bare eyes and other senses. Sometimes, to fully indulge with the place, the camera is best to be forgotten. .. it's the feeling you may never forget.

Fondest memory: There are narrow stone paths climbing above the lakes and falls - definitively worth to take for some views from an upper perspective. And since it takes little effort to climb, much less crowded than wooden ones just next to the lakes below. Therefore, certainly pleasant ones.

    Strudel Stands

by chrissyalex Updated Jun 23, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Upon crossing Lake Kozjak by boat, you will see a nice picnic area with some tables, restrooms, a giftshop and most importantly...STRUDEL STANDS!

This strudel was more breadlike than the pastry strudels , I had tried on the coast.

Some of the stands also sold sandwiches and cheese.

Fondest memory: The strudel stand in my picture offered ten varieties such cherry, apple, poppyseed, sweet cheese, and salty chesse. There were also combination strudels offereing two different fillings such as cherry and cheese combination and apple and poppyseed combination.

The cost for one was 15 kuna...(a little less than $5 ) and they are quite large. You must try it! :-)

    the view

by Aurorae Written Aug 26, 2003

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: There are several view points when you climb the mountains/hills surrounding Plitvice lakes, from where you have a breathtaking view over the lakes and the landscape around. Unfortunately, the water was few due to draught, when the amount of water is much higher, the waterfalls are amazing! In the summer after 6 months of no rain it is evident that something is missing...

    It's Me Again...

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fondest memory: People were taking photos around me. I didn't want to look like this amateur photographer who only took nature photos all the times, so I asked them to capture me as well, at Plitvice National Park.

    Plitvice Lakes

    by call_me_rhia Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Plitivice lakes is a blessed place in Croatia. It's a National Park with several emerald green lakes, pristine waterfalls, and many other wonderful natural places to see - so wonderful that they are now listed in the UNESCO list of word heritage sites. But the real magic of this place it's its location: only a few kilometres away from the frontline during the Bosnian war. Bombs dropped all over and about - but, call i magic, call it luck, while everything else was destroyed, not a single bomb touched the park - and we can now visit it as it used to be.

Fondest memory: the northern part of the park - more isolated and less visited: a real oasis of serenity. I went there late in the afternnon and I had so many wonderul trains and lakes and waterfalls all to myself: it was hard to leave behind so much unspoiled beauty

    Tired?

by Imbi Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: If you get tired of the long uneven surface walk due to your old age like me you could always sit down next to a running water underneath a tree. It makes a perfect scene for a picture and you could annoy any of the following visitors and ask them to take a picture of you.

    Plitvice Lakes in Numbers

by Nykaenen Updated Oct 25, 2002

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Plitvice lakes were created over thousands of years through geological processes that continue even today (water flowing over the limestone & chalk depositing travertine barriers & creating natural dams which then create lakes, caves & waterfalls).
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
The natural park is composed of 16 interlinked lakes divided into the upper lakes and the lower lakes. The lakes receive most of their water from rivers called Black River (Crna rijeka) & White River (Bijela rijeka). The lakes' water continues to the Korana river.
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
The highest lake is Proscansko jezero (639 m) and the lowest Novakovica Brod (503 m). The deepest lake is Kozjak lake (46 m).
    °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
The forests in the park are home to bears, wolves and many rare bird species.
