    Plitvicka, Martin at entrance, Croatia

Favorite thing: This is the map at the entrance, you can get a smaller copy to take with you, or use the one printed on the back of your ticket.
A ticket to enter the park costs 55 Kuna (or 10 Euro), you can pay in most accepted currencies, US$, British Sterling, etc.
The different paths are marked in colors for the two entrances and each tells you the approximate amount of time to do the walk.
The walks average between 3-4 or 5-6 hours, but that may take less or more time depending on your speed. We did more like 12 hours....

    Park infrastructure

Favorite thing: Plitvice Lakes National Park is an extremely popular tourist site, with hotels, plenty of parking, a large visitor center and outdoor food court, brochures in six languages (including Japanese) and so on. The park facilities are well-organized, to the point of overkill--you can hike routes marked for 1-2 hours, 3-4 hours, half a day, and so on. Two boat routes cruise the lower lake nonstop to move people from one side to the other. If you are too lazy to hike at all, there's a system of trams that runs around the park to drop you right near the most popular vista points.

You'll pay accordingly for all this infrastructure. The entry fee for the park (as of 2003) is HRK 75, about USD 12 at the time. It seemed a little steep, but we chalked it up to our contribution to Croatia's postwar reconstruction.

    Plitvicka map and Tal, Croatia

Favorite thing: At the entrance to the park there is a large sign that shows the topography of Plitvicka. You can get an idea of the size by Tal and you will also see the sign shows the symbol of UNESCO as Plitvicka is a World Heritage Site and well deserves the designation.

    Choose your route

    by deeper_blue Written Sep 30, 2005

Favorite thing: Before you enter the park there are a number of routes advertised on the boards, you are free to move about the park as you wish and take the long or short routes, if you are pushed for time but want to see as much as possible, you could speed up your walking and cut the time, you may have to wait for the boat though as they leave in intervals of 20ish minutes. Just choose a route e.g. route A or D and enjoy the scenery.
Also you are definitely NOT allowed to catch any fish or chase any animals.
