Thsi is one of the worst points on the trip. Here you are in blazing beauty, a perfect blue/green/aquamarine lake sitting there in front of you and YOU CANNOT SWIM IN IT.....aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggg...

But thats okay, if we can preserve it for everyone to see that is better. But it truly does take some willpower not to throw off your clothes and jump in...

Milanovac lake is the first lake you will encounter on your walk, this is how it appears from the path down into the canyon.
Behind it you can see next small watefall and the next lake, this goes on and on, waterfall, lake, waterfall, lake......

    enchanting lakes at plitvice

Originating from the park entrance number 1 there are two trails to follow: the orange one (3-4 hours) and blue one (3-4 hours) which take in different sections of the lower lakes. They both include the boat trip over the main lake - pass some smaller lakes and waterfalls en route - and especially take you to the higest waterfall inthe park - which is really a stunning waterfall. Both trails are clearly signposted... so just head for the one that captures your fancy

The lower lakes are the the heart of the park. Just have a look at the crystal clear water, have a walk on the wooden deck up to the waterfall.

Plitvicka, Milanovac lake, with trees, Croatia

This part of Milanovac lake is split into two parts by the trees and some very small waterfalls, it could be that the lower section which is much smaller does not have a name.

Plitvicka, Milanovac from the south, Croatia

This is Milanovac lake as seen from the south, looking northward. If you look closely you can see the boardwalk along the far shore, just there under the trees lining the waters edge.
