Konoba Borik (konoba is the best place to experiment typical home-made cuisine and local wine; they were once the places where fishermen hung out and got someone else to cook their catch for them) is located in a quiet and isolated part of Rijeka, in the park by the sea, only a few steps from the beach. It has an air-conditioned space with an open terrace with a sea view.
The daily offer is:
- home-made bread
- grilled fish, meat and vegetables
- salads (rocket, tomato, local cheese, olives, tuna...)
- other local specialities of coastal cuisine (a great variety of seafood dishes)
- home-made desserts
- table wine and a selection of good quality wines
The staff is very friendly. They will be happy to give an additional explanation about the dishes.
It is open Tue-Sun noon-11pm.
Favorite Dish: I had brodet with octopus and cattlefish (brodet is a general name for a fish stew on the Croatian coast) with polenta and Lena had black risotto (they uses cuttlefish or whole squid) with mussels. We shared blitva (boiled Swiss chard and potatoes with olive oil and garlic) and mix salad (rocket and tomato) and rinsed the food with a bottle of local white wine Malvasia. We completed the meal with espresso and had tiramisu and cherry pie with it.
Everything that we tried was absolutely delicious and their home-made corn bread with olives, which came directly from the oven... ah, yummy!! I even asked if they could sell some to take with me. And they did.

The housholder has his own wine in the cellar. That is the second (and the last one) thing I saw those people from Susak are growing (besides sheep cheese)
The wine is nothing special but you should try it just to be sure.
Favorite Dish: Wine

Phone: telephone - are you kidding?
Although it is caffe bar, you can order very good bruscete and sandwiches. They have gorgeous wines in stock, so don't miss them.
Zebra print seating and pink neon lighting reminds us on eighties, and big terrace is ideal for little rest during the hot summer days.
Also, inside the bar is gallery of one local painter, whose pictures can be bought for not so expensive prices.
Favorite Dish: bruscettes - similar like pizza made on wodden plate. It worth 20 kunas (app. 3€) price.

» «Arca Fiumana is a boat continuously anchored in Rijeka's port.
Down deck is a pub and upper deck is arranged as the restoran.
But, if you're looking for good meal and have a little more time, I reccomand you to go elsewhere.

Woodsy “real” pub, huge and with an extensive menu featuring daily set menus and veggie platters. The terrace between Korzo and Riva demands you rest your weary limbs on a hot day. The food’s not very Belgian. The beer is. Or at least some of it. So are the prices.
Great beers!
Also you can order hamburger's (best then McDondald's).
Open daily :06:00-01:00
except:
Saturday: 06:00-02:00

There are far more cafes and bars in Rijeka than restaurants - I suspect most people eat at home and then go out for a drink.
We were taken to a great seafood restaurant somewhere inland towards the north and west of Rijeka - the English translation of the name is 'Ivo's Place' - I think.
Ivo is a fisherman and the fish are beautifully fresh.
Thouroughly recommended - sorry I can't tell you more about where it is.
Favorite Dish: All Ivo's fishy things.

My landlady recomend me Megi, but I decided for a No.13 restaurant - the name was just to attracting.
As far as you won't order pancakes (they are awful) you'd be pleased with everithing.
Favorite Dish: It would be the lobster with spagetthi but my budget wouldn't allow it. So I decided for a 'gavuni' those small fried fishes. Some wine as well. There have an excelent sheep cheese also. One of few home-made things that are made in Susak.
