Senj Favorites

Favorite thing: My son lives in Switzerland. Last summer he told me that his swiss friends are going to visit Croatia and I wanted to organize a trip for them to see the country. It will not be neccessary, my son replied, they just want to see Senj, because when they were young "Red Haired Zora and her gang" impressed them so much and they want to visit the site where the novel was written.
A very popular German youth novel named "Red Haired Zora and her gang" has been written by Swiss author Kurt Held after his stay in Senj before the second world war. The story was filmed for TV by Yugoslav and German TV studios and has enjoyed great success. In 2007 a 2-hours film was made which is now in German and Swiss cinemas. A visit to Senj is an opportunity to feel the ambiance which has inspired Kurt Held to write this classical youth novel.

Fondest memory: A Swiss has come one day to the Senj tourist office and he offered a scholarship for a poor child from Senj because the novel describes the lives of deprived children in Senj. His relation to the boy and his family lasts a long time.

Favorite thing: Ladies and gentlemen, check out your GPS... Senj is located halfway between the Equator and the North Pole. This monument was made by my uncle to commemorate this important landmark in Senj. Old scriptures decorates.
