Šime: Great Pizza near Zadar

by sabsi

Another great tip by Danijela. After a day in Pag we were hungry and drove by Pizzeria Šime on the way back to Diklo. It didn't take long to convince Thomas to park the car ;) This very popular pizzeria is located in one of the Northern suburbs of Zadar, Borik. I guess this place can get very crowded in a summer evening. When we were there it was rather empty but that was in the late afternoon in May...The food here was great, the only downside might be the location of the big terrace which is next to a bigger road. Oh well, I guess we were just spoilt by now ;) I had Pasta with truffle which was gorgeous but very filling. The price was 50 kn I believe. Thomas had one of the famous pizzas, actually he had THE pizza, with every meat possible on top ;) The pizza was great with a perfect crust, lovely! I still think that Pizzeria Pet Bunara was my favourite in and around Zadar, though.

Restoran Fontana: Great Grill Chicken in Trogir

by sabsi

One evening we came to Trogir for dinner. We didn't feel like walking too much and we wanted to catch some last atmosphere before moving on so we trusted my travel guide. The only restaurant it mentioned for Trogir was "Restoran Fontana" on Riva. That night we didn't care for prices or touristy places, we just wanted food and a great place to sit. It was such a nice evening with great food, the usual Martini and Coke and with a cat who ran up the palm tree when being chased by a dog... lovely! I had grilled chicken with chips and a green salad. Both were very tasty and my whole plate was full of meat ;) The price was 45 kn, so not extremely expensive and absolutely worth it. Thomas had 2 grilled mackerels for about the same price, his plate was full of fishes ;)

Pet Bunara Pizzeria: Great Pizza in Zadar

by sabsi

Thanks to VT's local Zadar girl, Danijela, we had dinner outside this pizzeria at one of Zadar's most beautiful squares, Trg Pet Bunara (The Square with the five wells), one evening. (Luckily we remembered her saying that there are two square's with wells, one with five, one with three, ... we almost ended up in a dreadful looking place called Pizzeria Tri Bunara ;)We got all we wanted here after walking around town a bit too long, a cold drink, a fantastic pizza and a friendly waitress who spoke perfect English! It was time to relax.... I had a gorgeous pizza with Prsut (God, I miss this stuff) and sour cream, I think it was called Pizza Pazza. Especially the sour cream made this pizza extremely special and tasty! I wish I had this place next door at home, it probably was the great pizza during our entire trip! But then again, unlike Thomas I didn't have one pizza every day ;)

Konoba Mediterano: Great Meat Dishes in Dubrovnik

by sabsi

The manager of our guesthouse, Toni, had given us two advises on where to eat in Dubrovnik and one advise where not to eat. We chose this place for a little VT dinner because it looked nice, with a nice outdoor seating on the square underneath the steps Uz jezuite. Plus there wasn't anybody trying to sell us anything, on the contrary, you could have a look inside the menu without anybody looking at you. And because the owner is a friend of Toni's, we knew he wouldn't mess it up! Plus the other place Toni had recommended, the popular Lokanda, had too much fish on the menu for our tastes. It was a good decision. The food we got here was among the best we got on our whole trip, something I wouldn't have expected to happen in Dubrovnik! Prices are as high as they are in Dubrovnik, but here you can be sure to get a good meal! The day we visited it was rather busy here with lots of tables being...

n/a: Dalmatian Food

by Renteboy

Each one of us is unique and so is there taste, so far my first excuse! I must admit the food isn’t the item they will be famous for. Traditional Dalmatian food is grilled. You can find anything grilled, but if you can't distinguish the taste of a fish with calamari or octopus anymore, than there is something wrong, for me. My second excuse is that I’m from Belgium and we have one off (if not the one) the best kitchen of the world and compared to it they score bad! Specially (3rd excuse) while my girlfriend can’t eat unwashed vegetables (in here condition ;-), you realize Croatia is a dodgy place if it comes to high food standards.Fast food is making its way to most places, and slices of pizza or burgers are easily to buy, but most places scored fair to poor if it comes to usual dishes: steak, pasta, salad… (nearly 4th excuse). So forgive me to rate the overall perspective as Somewhat...

"The Ravlices": "The Ravlices in Muzilovcica"

by Judy1087

Driving south of Zagreb along the Sava River Valley you will travel through wetlands known for the nesting pairs of storks which return each year. Its called the Lonjsko polje region, and the highlight village is Cigoc. Further along the road you arrive in Muzilovcica, and local residents, the Ravlices, have an outdoor restaurant which should not be missed. Local fare.
