Beer ! (called "Pivo")

by Canuck5

While I was in the country for 6 months, I had a chance to try a number of different local beers. I kept some of their labels as souvenirs. Not all of them were made in Croatia; some were made elsewhere within the former Yugoslavia. The alcohol content of these beers ranged from 11% to 12.5%.

Eat Delicious Pizza in Croatia: Pizza in Croatia

by tylercdurden2004

Croatian food has a lot of influence from Italy courtesy of the former venetian rulers. YOu can get some fantastic dishes in Croatia and I highly reccomend trying some pizza while here. Of course you should try the traditioanl Balkan dishes like Burek but if you have a hankering for pizza you cant go wrong in Croatia. There are many restaurants all over Croatia so just pop into one and give it a try.

all over the country!: Eating in Croatia

by travelmad478

We spent ten days in Croatia, eating about 20 lunches and dinners in the process. While the food was moderately good throughout, what was striking was the amazing sameness of menus throughout the country. No matter where you were, it seemed like every restaurant in Croatia had ordered their menu from the same factory. There are sections for pasta, risotto, grilled and roasted meat, salads, cheese plates, and so on. And almost every section has a lot of the same items on it (shrimp risotto...sopski salad...and so on). This got awfully monotonous, although it must be said that the preparation of the same dishes varied a lot from place to place. Sometimes a restaurant served a great cheese plate, sometimes a great risotto, sometimes a great salad--but it was always a crapshoot as to which dish each restaurant did well!

Corso Pizza Grill: Sumptuous pizzas

by GypsyBessie

Although we were staying in a hotel we decided to have a meal in Porec town and chose to eat at Corso because it looked so inviting and pretty with the roof top seating amongst the trees and looking into a lovely square. The pizzas were delicious as are all pizzas in Porec. The owner and staff in the restaurant were very welcoming and friendly and even during a very violent thunderstorm they managed to keep us entertained and offered us drinks until the storm had finished. Unfortunately, we only had the one opportunity to eat here at Corso but I still remember how good pizza was even after so many years.

What to drink?: What to drink?

by canaglic

What to drink?Cultivation of wine grapes and production of sweet and selected wines is the several centuries old tradition of Croatian winegrowers - both, in the continental part of Croatia, and at Primorje and Dalmatia. The well-known varieties of Croatian wines along the Adriatic coast and on the islands are red wines - Teran, Merlot, Cabernet, Opolo, Plavac, Dingac, Postup, and white wines - Malvazija, Posip, Pinot, Kujundzusa, Zlahtina, Muskat... In the continental parts - Riesling, Graševina, Burgundac, Traminac... Among the strong drinks, there are various brandies which are well-known - plum brandy, herb-flavoured brandy, grapes brandy, and among the dessert drinks are Prosek and Maraschino.

What to eat?: What to eat?

by canaglic

What to eat?Except for the standard European cousine - Croatia offers its most popular domestic dishes and specialities: among the cold dishes, there are renowned Dalmatian of Istrian prosciutto, Pag or Lika cheese, sheep cheese, the Slavonia paprika-flavoured salami (called “kulen”), renowned Samobor or Zagorje garlic sausages (called “cesnjovka”), fresh cheese with cream... Main dishes depend on the area in which you are. In Dalmatia, Primorje, on islands and in Istria, the dishes are fish and other seafood dishes, or meat dishes - the so-called “pasticada” or boiled lamb.In the continental part of Croatia, there is a wide selection of meat dishes, with turkey with special pasta called “mlinci”, roas lamb, roast suckling, boiled or baked “štruki” (pasta with cheese) being particularly famous. Among desserts, apart from the alread mentioned “strukli”, there are: walnut loaf, poppy seed...
