Croatian food

by tampa_shawn

Croatian food is wonderful! We tried a wide variety of different dishes and enjoyed them all. My main advise here is to ask for the daily special and enjoy. For those of you who are less adventurous there a wide variety of Italian restaurants are available. If you're on a budget outdoor markets can provide a fun and inexpensive way to eat alsoSince Croatia is on the coast so the seafood is fresh and tasty. Unfortunately, fish here is quite expensive. The fish dinners we splurged on were all wonderful. They seemed to serve the entire fish here, skin head and all. Fish plates often included both first and second class fish…if you haven’t heard of that term before think of the difference between first and second class seating on an airplane. Second class fish is usually smaller and has lots of smaller bones but was always served fresh so it was fantastic regardless. The prices on shell fish...

roadside stalls: Plitivce Lakes NP

by call_me_rhia

Inside the park food options are limited: bland not too cheap food at the few cafeterias - or tasty but overexpensive food at the hotels. As a middle of the road solution you could buy your food... middle of the road! Along the main road - where the buses stop - there are several women selling delicious home made bureks, jams and bread. So just buy your lunch there and head inside the park - and enjoy a pic-nic bureks.. really delicious ones... my favourite (very subjective) are cheese bureks. and here near pltivice most are made with home-made cheese

jadran restaurant: dubrovnik

by call_me_rhia

Jadran restaurant: the surrounding... just right as you enter the old gate of pile you see the restaurant jadran, in a large patio inside an old building, with flowers and trees all over. A very charming location. And the foof... the food... mhhhh, delicious. Among the starters they have a delicious dalmatian ham and a great selection of local cheeses. For your main course you can choose a vast selection of fresh seafood - the scampi are delicious, or else pizzas and risottos (a rice dish). They had some typical dalmatian meals too - and yummy palacinke (pancakes) for dessert.

"loggia" restaurant: Sibenik

by call_me_rhia

I'm calling this restaurant "loggia" because I have forgotten its name - but it's easy to find: next to the cathedral, under the italian style loggia. A bit posh, maybe, but truly delicious fantastic scampi - i cant remember how many...but many! i really could not finish them (although i tried). Slightly expensive but worth it

Various: Driving under influence :-(((

by matcrazy1

.Croatian wines (and beer) are addicted. But certainly please never, never try to drive under influence. It's a criminal offence - you may be banned of driving + pay much not mention that it's dangerous for you and others. So, better NOT to follow the inscription from the picture, take a taxi instead..

Pizzeria Scala in Dubrovnik's Lapad district: Their pizza is better than Italy

by Venturingnow

This place was great. It's located in Lapad, a community of Dubrovnik. It's a local place that has roof top tables, and TV's downstairs showing football all day. If you get takeout, they give you a free beer. The good old chili pizza with hot peppers, pepperoni, and more!

by Zem

We had no money at all we didnt eat at any restaurants but we had a favorite confectionery. They had amazing ice-cream - it was a Turkish brother's sweet-shop - delicious cakes but especially they has a special feat i ve never seen anywhere but there! That shop was in a house. They likely live there, too. We were on in the garden when one of the Turkish broters look around from the first floor window and the other out of the blue threw a scoop up to him and the other just spapped it into his mouth! We loughed and enjoy that place and all of our honeymoon was so happy. One of them stood here the other stood there and just one one of them threw a cream scoop to the other and the other caught that scoop but before they stood back-to-back to each other. It was quite magical. They must be jugglers because they did many more attractions in that small shop.

by anaiis

Now this is not a restaurant, its just a tip (how to survive in Croatia on sea). First, you have to spot a fishing boat (that has just stopped fishing). Approach carefully. Do yell from a far this intrance sentance: Ima li nesto? (Yma lee neshto?) that means Have you got something? If the answer is Yes! (or Da!), approach a few more cabels. Mogu li dobiti nesto? (Moghu lee dobeeti neshto?) Swing with beer cans in the air! They should be previously kept cold. Exchange beer cans for fish. Do ask for ice to keep fish cold. Pay (they won't rob you off). Now turn your boat from them and leave. Enjoy frying fish!!! The best fish you have ever had. Do NOT feed the sea gulls BEFORE you had eaten! They might also steal entire bag of fish!!! Watch it!
