A must see building in Stari Grad is Tvrdalj, the house of the famous 16th century poet Petar Hektorovic. The house was originally built in the first half of the 16th century and renovated two centuries later, in Baroque style. It's an interesting combination of a chateau and a summer house.
The most interesting features of this house are the numerous inscriptions in Latin and Croatian, the park and the ethnographic collection. On the square in front of the house stands a sculpture of Hectorovic (see the pictures).

The Croats inhabited the island in 7th century AD. Also in the collection is a painting by Tintoretto commissioned by Petar Hektorovic.
