Zadar

by SirRichard

Zadar was really a NICE SURPRISE in my trip. Knowing nothing about it in advance, I found a nice middle sized mediterranean town (quite venetian again) whose city center is located on an islandwith beautiful churches, narrow lively streets and fantastic views from the shores.I specially liked the SEA ORGAN, an amazing stairs built by the seashore with holes and tubes inside that let the waves come in making sounds that reminded me the whales crying in the middle of the ocean. I just sat there on a lovely sunset and enjoyed the views while listening to those unreal sounds... quite a magical experience!

Korcula

by SirRichard

I really haven't been IN Korcula, just saw it from the ferry when it did a little stop from Split to Dubrovnik. It seemed to me a cozy little town with narrow alleys and some wonderful creeks. It is located in the island of the same name in the south adriatic coast.

Krka Nat. Park

by SirRichard

This is maybe the 2nd most famous park here, after Plitvice. I didn't see Plitvice, but from the pics I saw of it, Krka seemed as a SMALL version of it, but really wonderful too.It is located near Sibenik, in the south. There are a few waterfalls, lakes (1 with a monastery in the middle), and many trails on wood paths OVER the rivers, so you can walk around everywhere. It makes a really pleasant daytrip from Sibenik. There is a restaurant, bars and a few souvenir shops.

Dubrovnik

by SirRichard

Located in the very very south, Dubrob¡vnik is by far the most famous touristic spot in Croatia, but definetly overcrowded and, for me, SPOILED by the crowds of tourists, the same illness that affects other places such as Venice in Italy. Anyway, it deserves a visit, and I think is not so bad if you avoid the crowds in the main streets and get lost in the many little alleys that climb the hills around. I was there less than a day, and reached to see the main attractions without being too suffocated by tourists around. It has a certain italian flavour in a medieval atmosphere and the view from the sea is certainly charming.

Split

by SirRichard

One of the jewels of Craotia and, by far, MY FAVOURITE. It is not as famous as Dubrovnik but more "authentic" and definetly not soooo crowded. Built around and original roman city, this old fort (Diocletianus Palace) is still the centre of the old town and it clearly keeps its shape, walls and inner buildings, so walking about in the centre you can imagine yourself back in the times of the old romans, stepping on the same floors and through the same alleys...

Zagreb

by SirRichard

Being Croatia's capital, Zagreb is a must if you visit the country.Nevertheless, many visitors concentrate in the coast and miss this inland spot. Although it is not one of the 7 wonders, it has a few nice corners to see and the visit to the old city on top of the hill is very pleasant. You can visit most of what is important in one day as it is concentrated in "Gornji Grad", a few streets around the famous "St. Marcus Sq" (see pic)

Zagreb

by blint

Zagreb definitely has the old Austro-Hungarian feel to it and has the same elegant feel to it as Budapest. You can also imagine yourself transported back to the nineteen 30's or 40's. The blue and white trams that operate all over the city help you imagine this. I visited Zagreb at Christmas time in the middle of a snow storm. For me this was the best time to see Zagreb as the snow gave it that extra fairy tale aspect. Although I can imagine that it is equally as beautiful in summer. Maybe the worst times to visit would be early spring or Autumn where I can imagine it could get very dull and damp.Around December and January it gets dark very early; around 4 o' clock which was a big shock for me coming from southern Spain where it stays light until 6:30.

Pula (Pola)

by SirRichard

Pula was my first stop in Croatia arriving from Italy. It is located in the southern point of the Istria peninsula and has a few roman monuments to see. There are a few beaches around, though this is not its main attractive. It is a good basecamp for visiting little villages in Istria.Pula has a nice mediterranean atmosphere with all those pine trees and the pleasant marina...

Kraljevski grad Nin

by croisbeauty

Small but very beautiful town of Nin is one of the hiden jewels of Croatia. It is situated about 20 km north of Zadar and is a must see when visiting Dalmatia. First, because of its numerous historic sights, from Roman times up to Middleages. Nin is also known as the first seat of the Croatian kings and the place where most of them were crowned. Last, but not of less importance, there are many beautiful beach resorts in the town of Nin and its close surroundings.
