Dubrovnik: East West Beach Club

by coccinella169

If you do not want to squat the cliffs :), I found Banje Beach as the closest beach to Dubrovnik Old Town. It is a small beach, with pebble stones and the water is as everywhere very clear. You can rent sunbeds and even four posters beds at east West beach club for the maximum comfort :). There are also beaches at Lapad island, where many hotels are as well, or people are going by boat to offshore islands.

Bol - holiday town

by TheWanderingCamel

Bol, on the south coast of Brac, is the island's most popular holiday destination. The main attraction is the beautiful beach at Zlatni Rat, which draws thousands of visitors, both locals and foreigners each year, but there is more to Bol than just the beach. Like small seaside towns everywhere in Croatia, its pretty little harbour is lined with attractive stone houses, cafes and restaurants. There are lots of accommodation options here - hotels, rooms (sobe) in private houses, apartments and even a monastery guesthouse. In late June we had no trouble finding a spotless apartment with not only a gorgeous sea view but a charming owner who gave us wine and fruit, invited us to help ourselves to the vegetables in her garden, and, when we used her barbecue to cook our cevapcici, brought us home-made chips (her own potatoes) to go with them. The town lies between Zlatni Rat (at the western...

National Parks in Croatia

by polardabar

As I said, there are numerous National Parks in Croatia - eight to be precise. Four in the mountain region:- Risnjak- Sjeverni Velebit- Plitvicka Jezera- Paklenicaand four along the coast:- Brijuni- Krka- Telascica- Mljet.I still haven't visited all of them, but from those I've seen, I can only imagine what the rest of them have to offer... I think it's really worth spending a day of your vacation to enjoy some nature, take hikes or a boat ride - use the opportunity! Here's a map of all of them, so check out which is closest to your base... ;)

National Parks in Croatia

by travelwokn

The first time I went to Croatia I had an extra Sunday due to a problem with our flight out of Split, so we decided to go check out Krka national park, which I had heard about from the owner of the room we were renting. It turned out to be the best thing we did all trip, and it was a great trip. Krka is an amazingly lush national park built along a long stretch of river about 2 hours north of Split on the Croatian coast. What made it so spectacular was the incredible diversity and richness of the vegetation coupled with the amazingly clear and clean water. The paths through the park are wooden 'bridges' that cross and re-cross the river, allowing you to walk along the river under a leafy canopy. There is an old mill so history buffs and a series of amazing waterfalls, culminating in a gigantic pool at the base of a wide waterfall that you can swim in. Most refreshing swim of my life...

Salona

by bkoon

Solin is the Croatian name of the place, Salona. Salona is located very near to Spilt and it is easy to detour into Salona. In Salona, you will get to see the ruins of a mighty ancient Roman empire. The most spectacular being the amphitheatre. Extracted from Weblink (About the Amphitheatre):The world famous archeologist of Salona Ejnar Dyggve thinks that it was built in the 2nd century A.C, in the course of great rise of Salona. It is supposed that it could have 18.000 spectators. In the southern part it had three floors, in the north part one, since the amphitheatre leaned to the hill-side. It is elipsoidal, 126 m long and 102 m wide, while arena is 67 m long and 43 m wide. In the center of southern part was the prominent place reserved for the town-noblemen. In the eastern part is "Porta Pompae" where the procession of gladiators and their assistants entered in. The similar gate is...

Zagreb

Buzzing, lively, cosmopolitan capitol of Croatia.Culture, history, art, cuisine... Center of the city full of architectural markers of turbulent past that will remind you of many other European capitols.Central square - Trg Bana Jelacica and nearby Kaptol and Dolac market are the pulsing heart of Zagreb. Saturday morning is the best time to immerse into local version of Good Life. Shopping, chatting in pubs, strolling to see and be seen. You will see people dressed in latest high fashion brands and farmers carrying their load to or from Dolac market. Flowers, so many flower stalls! Food from all sides of Croatia, fresh fish from the Adriatic, cured sausages and meat from Slavonija region.Street singers. Gypsies. I love Zagreb, I was born and grew up there.

Split

by solopes

The second town of Croatia is in a privileged situation to work as a hub of the visitors of central Croatia. Sibenik, Krka, Trogir, Makarska and Hvar are less than one hour distant, and the town of Split itself has plenty of reasons to attract visitors, but I must confess that we had only a couple of hours to it.
