Stay in Trogir, half an hour from split. smaller and more beautiful. Of all the places you are staying Split is the least appealing, but Trogir is just up the road and gorgeousYou can pop in and see old Split in half a day
The stradun is the main road you walk down through town. Do not buy souvenirs, etc. here. There is a market at the end of the stradun and to the right that sells locals things and the prices are better.
If you get out of the tourist region and English speakers, be careful when you ask for the price. Take some paper and pen with you so they write down the price. We found a nice hotel in Porec, the manager told me in the evening that the price is 48 Euro. The hotel was really nice for that price. Next morning the manager showed me that I have to pay 84 E, and everybody else had paid that, he showed me his book of receipts, I don't look at all as someone who tries to cheat. As part of the guided tour offered at Krka National park you'll get to visit this secluded island retreat used by Franciscan monks. Pay extra to take a boat up to Visovac - tickets purchased at the booth at Skradinski Buk.The boat trip is extremely pleasant as it takes you there along the lake.When you arrive you'll be met by a tour guide who will give one of best no-nonsense tours I've had (ie. low on useless information and keeping to the most interesting facts). It may even be too brief as it doesn't leave you much time to absorb the tranquil atmosphere or foind out more about the interesting exhibit on the fate of many churches in the Dalmatia region during the Balkan War.
If you're based in Sibenik or thereabouts a day-trip to the Park is well worth it.Hop on a bus, which will drop you off at the entrance to the park or in the town of Skradin,where a boat can take you further up to the entrance. Enjoy a spot of hiking through pleasant woodland and across bridges overlooking the impressive falls.You can even go for a dip and visit an island monastery. There are other national parks in Croatia to visit,such as Plitvice further north,but Krka is a great day out.

Puntamika! It's near the hostel.Just head away from Zadar's old town along the 'harbour' road northwards following signs for the Puntamika hotel complex. Once you've found the complx,enter the gate from the road and walk through to find a spot somewhere,perhaps free of kids if you prefer. If using a 'recliner' while sunning yourself be prepared for the fee - about 15 KN I think. Keep walking til you find a spot you like,but there's plenty of room in early June.

That "delicious" pear brandy - or whatever it was, just doesn't taste the same without the moon on the water, the boats bobbing by the dock, the candlelit shadows on the konoba wall. It does a great job of mascerating the fruit for the Christmas cake. A bottle should see you through about 10 Christmases
If you walk along the main street in Dubrovnik you will often be assaulted by sticky waiters "capturing" you for their restaurant. I found this very annoing, and tried to not pay any attention to them. Walk around the side alleys where there are many nice terraces out of the rush of the mainstream.
