Boats

by Nephrite

Croatia is famous for its pure waters and large quantity of islands. You’ll go boating for sure. Although they were more expensive and slower than buses, but produced an impression on me. Boats run to timetable which you can find at the numerous moorings. Almost all captains can speak fluent English. I recommend you using this transport during sunny days, otherwise there is a risk to feel seasickness.

Ferries

by SirRichard

Ferries are probably the best way (sometimes the only) to travel along the dalmatian coast and visit its many islands. In summer there are a lot, several daily sometimes. It is a good option to visit habited islands. For those inhabited (Natural parks and so) there are usually boat daytrips from the closest locations.Jadrolinija is the main company here. There is a ferry coming from Venice that takes you to Bari (Italy) stopping at Rijeka, Split and Dubrovnik. If you wanna see Dubrovnik in 1 afternoon this boat is perfect, as it stops there 5-6 hours, time enough to have a quick visit without sleeping in Dubrovnik (terribly expensive!)

Zagreb->Budapest 17.28 Euro by train one-way

by GyuriFT

This is a "substitute" for the 15 Euro Beograd-Budapest one-way train deal. Unfortunately there is no special deal Zagrab-Budapest, only Ljubljana-Budapest and Beograd-Budapest on train. The cheapest way people use to travel from Zagreb is to buy a round-trip ticket which is always 60% of the regular round-trip ticket, hence saving 10% from one-way price (35.40 Euro via Koprivnica or 37.40 Euro via Kotoriba)But we can "create" a better deal. There is a little-known loophole: a round-trip ticket needs to EITHER start OR finish in the same place, there is NO REQUIREMENT, it would start AND finish at the same place!Hence, Zagreb-Budapest ticket can be "cut" into a Zagreb-Gyékényes+Gyékényes-Koprivnica ticket which would qualify as a "round-trip" and a Koprivnica-Budapest+Gyékényes-Koprivnica ticket which ALSO would qualify as a round-trip.The saving is pretty big: -...

Budget airlines

by diocletianvs

Since 2006, when Croatia finally adopted the European Open Skies policy and lifted the monopoly of Croatia Airlines there is a growing number of budget airlines flying here. So, finding a return ticket for cheap is not a problem any more, especially if you book in advance or book during the special discount periods that most of these airlines offer quite often. To find out which low cost airlines fly to Croatia the easiest way is to use one of the websites written under links below. Major birds on Croatian airports include Germanwings and TUIfly (flying to Germany), Wizzair, Easyjet and Ryanair (flying to UK), Norwegian (flying to Norway) and Sky Europe (linking Adriatic coast cities with Central Europe). Note that some of these companies (like Ryanair and Sky Europe) only offer seasonal flights during the summer season.

by diocletianvs

The only 4-lane motorway that was built during the Yugoslav period was the one running from Zagreb eastwards, connecting it with Belgrade. Until recently, the motorway directed towards the Adriatic was stopping 50 kilometres away from Zagreb - in Karlovac. But in the last decade an ambitious program started and now modern motorways stretch from the Hungarian (Gorican) and Slovenian borders (Macelj, Bregana) to Zagreb and further in direction of Rijeka and Split. On all motorways and some bridges (Krk bridge) and tunnels (Ucka tunnel) you have to pay the toll. For updated price lists check the following websites: www.hac.hr is the website of Croatian Highways - company that operates Zagreb - Lipovac, Zagreb - Macelj, Zagreb - Gorican, Zagreb - Bregana, Zagreb - Split highways and Krk bridge. On their website you can find toll prices, maps and current traffic info: ...

Air travel to Croatia

by diocletianvs

Croatia Airlines has daily flights from Zagreb to London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna and Prague, where you can catch the flights for further destinations. Other destinations in Europe include Manchester, Brussels, Rome, Sarajevo, Istanbul, Skopje etc. Most of these flights originate from Zagreb, although during the summer there are frequent direct flights to/from Split and Dubrovnik as well. Croatia is now a regional member of Star Alliance so it is possible to earn/spend miles on their flights. In big airports they use gates close to other Star partner airlines and have schedules coordinated with them which makes transfers to long distance flights easier. International airports in Croatia are Zagreb and Osijek on the continent and Pula, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Brac and Dubrovnik on the coast. Other airlines that have scheduled flights to Croatia include Lufthansa, Air...

Do not drive to Croatia!

by nicole8

If you can, fly directly to Croatia. We drove from Vienna to Croatia. On return, we were stuck in a traffic jam for 5 hours between croatia and slovenia borders!!! Although the highway in Croatia is newly built, it only has two lanes, and often one lane closed. Highly recommend to fly to any of the airports close to your destination, and rent a car just for local transport.

From Split to Hvar

by coccinella169

There are frequently going catamarans from Split to Hvar and vice versa. The name of the ferry company is "Jadrolinija". In Split their ticket selling stand is easily to be found at the harbour. In Hvar they have an office right at the harbour as well. The journey between Hvar Town and Split lasts 1 hour. Some ferries are going from Split to Stari Grad on the island of Hvar as well. From Stari Grad to Hvar Town it is about 15 minutes by car or bus. For schedules check Jadrolinija website. In high season it might be better to buy the ferry ticket in advance.
