For those searching for a culinary delight, Vis island is undoubtedly a perfect place. The island is known for variety of delicious local products. You can get them in some little shops and wine cellars in Komiza and Vis town. Even better, drive to the interior of the island to one of those little villages, as Velo Selo, Podspilje, Podhumlje, Borovik, Zena Glava, Kostirna or Okljucna. There you find several organic smallholdings and restaurants. They offer products which are always the freshest and of top quality.

The island was a very important producer of superb wines greatly appreciated by ancient Greek and Roman elite.
Today, about 20% of island’s land is covered with vineyards, and some still produce unique Plavac Mali and Bugava. These are dark ruby wines, velvety and strong, full of sunshine’s warmth. Some vineyards are producing Prosek (sherry) by leaving grapes to dry on vines, picking them later in winter months and extracting the thick sweet juice. The residues from wine and Prosek production are used to make “Lozovaca” brandy. By adding aromatic and medicinal herbs, they produce “Travarica” herbal brandy varieties.
What to buy: After a very good dinner at Roki’s restaurant, I bought a bottle of their Prosek and herbal brandy in which carob, sage and some secret magical herbs were soaking. (a mistake, I should have bought more)
You can buy their products at their family farm – restaurant – vinery, or in Vis, the shop is located on the main promenade close to ferry port.
