Putting ina new front door. Drago the locksmith looks on. Job was OK in the end, though south-facing wooden doors need protection from the moist winter `yugo'. Neighbour Nenad buys UV lac, which serves as good protection from the sun as well.

I once had all kinds of crazy ideas.. I bought a tiny Fiat Panda because I thought I could drive it up the small alleyways and park it in the `dvor'. Took the measurements at all the narrow points of the alley, and seemed to be OK. Widened the entrance gate. But I needed to listen to the locals .. now way village tradition would allow such a thing.

Drago thinks there is nothing better in this world than drinking Karlovacko pivo, eating some salami with home-grown spring onions on a summer's evening. From last year's experience, I would say he's right. But he wasn't that impressed with my gardening skills (thinking nothing of my sowing commercial seeds). `These professors..' he muttered contemptuously, `what do they know how to do?'.

This is the current state of my kitchen. But it is nothing compared to bigger structural headaches.. water (moisture) comes through the porous limestone walls from the street, and to properly insulate it I would have to dig up half the street, which the locals will not be so happy about.

free running, and with a tendency to hunt out tasty tit-bits lying around. Cats and mice are at it too.

Vrisnik, a `gentle settlement'.

Summer house - village on Hvar. Most people prefer neighbouring Pitve, which has a more spectacular position.. but Vrisnik has its own tennis court, bakery, and is a bit more lively.
