Pickpocketing and stealing in the summer

by kristofor

When staying in camps, rooms or even hotels take care to put your stuff away of reach and ALWAYS lock your room and consult your host about front doors, safety and house roles... Just recently there is a new kind of stealing technique going on at the coast; people walk into a private house pretending to be new quests or just looking for rooms and then if not encountering anyone, help themselves with what they find; steal from the houseowners or theri guests. On beaches pickpocketing when going for a swimm. Unfortunately, summer fun sometimes has not so nice surprises if not carefull!

Historically troubled region

by acemj

Of course, the ethnically-fueled turmoil of the '90s has left its scars on Croatia, but you can feel safe in visiting these days. The country's infrastructure is suitable for visitors and what it has to offer in natural sights and historical treasures is really quite amazing.

Experienced In Porec...

by coceng

Okay, this is an annoying one but with a blessing in disguise...I went to Porec from Rovinj in the morning about 9 am, reaching there for just 1 hour.Decided to get back to Rovinj at 12, but was told that the next bus would be at 3.45 pm !Slowly, I walked to the harbour area of Porec & saw many excursions collecting people for the trips around Porec.I decided to ask & took one excursion to Slim Draga Fjord, Red Island & Rovinj !From Rovinj, the boat would go back to Porec but I got off for good in Rovinj. That was nice, although I had to pay the full amount anyway. I didn't care because seeing lots of birds bomb-dived my foods is a sight that I would never forget !

Reaching Jablanac...

by coceng

Sometimes, a danger is not really a danger,an anoyance is not really annoying & a warning is a reminder to what we might go through. Individually, we all experience a different thing to one another when we travel.Sometimes I chose to be slightly adventurous. For example, reaching Jablanac at 2 in the morning !Jablanac is a ferry port to reach Rab Island, one of the best in Croatia. Normally, people take buses from Rijeka or Split or Zadar, hence they won't get off at Jablanac at all 'cos you can stay on the bus while being transported to Rab Island. My case, I took the night bus to Jablanac & I thought Jablanac was a town where I could have some drinks & stuffs.Little that I knew the night bus stopped me (politely...) at a junction to Jablanac, which is a walk 3 to 4 km away descending down a hill to reach Jablanac itself.I was not angry at all because the walk down hill was an amazing...

Returning from Plitvice National Park

by coceng

While it's a must going to Plitvice National Park, but make sure you get your bus easily to your next destination.Easy to get to Zagreb but not that easily to get to Dalmatian Coast. There are many buses going to Split though so my advice to flag ANY bus that you see on the road in Plitvice National Park; I had the experience of a bus driver giving me a lift to a place where I could get my connection to my next destination.I had to wait like 2 hours (at the bus stop) to get back to Zadar where I left my luggage.A bus bounded for Split took me for a free ride & dropped me off at this place in Korenica (photo on the left). It's a restaurant by the road where many buses stopped for a break time between journeys.I was lucky there because there were 2 buses to Zadar at that moment !Plitvice-Split : 3.5 to 4 hoursPlitvice-Zadar : 4 hours.

Stupid Accomodation Rules...

by coceng

I didn't encounter any danger while in Croatia so it's one of the best places that I have been to. Although I was stopped by the police while pissing in the bushes but that's their job & my job was to ease myself anyway. It was at 2 am...Anyway, just want to share this stupid rule by the accomodation agencies, particularly in RIJEKA & TO THE KVARNER PENINSULA TOWNS LIKE PULA, ROVINJ, POREC...You have to stay the minimum of 3 nights otherise you still have to pay the supplements up to 50% for the nights that you don't want to stay !First time I experienced this.I know this stupid rule are in order to some places around Europe anyway but it's stupid & stupid & stupid !Furthermore, some camping grounds WILL NOT ACCEPT YOU IF YOU HAVE A SLEEPING BAG ! Meaning you still have to pay the spot/area of setting up a tent !Again stupid !It shows that some places separate the tourists from...

Driving a Croatian rental car to Montenegro

by ramot418

It is only natural to visit Dubrovnik (after all, what did you come to Croatia for?) and, if you rent a car, it is very tempting to visit Montenegro - only half an hour away. First, let me state that I did it and enjoyed it, and recommend that you do it too, but....Although almost all Croatian rental agencies (certainly all the big ones) allow you to drive to Montenegro, the insurance is another matter. There are those who refuse to insure driving in Montenegro ("drive at your own risk"), there are others who provide insurance for an added premium, and there are still others whose insurance covers driving to Montenegro at no extra charge. Make sure you get *in writing*:(1) Exactly what the insurance covers (relative to driving in Croatia at least);(2) What it *doesn't* cover;(3) What is the exact procedure to follow in Montenegro if something happens (police report, towing, repairs etc.)

Border Crossing at Neum

by mtncorg

Don't hide away your passport when you are driving south to Dubrovnik. About 85 km north of Dubrovnik, you will drive through a 5 km section of coastline that was given to Turkey as a result of 19th century treaties. That coastline has now been inherited by Bosnia i Hercegovina and border control stations are present at each of the crossings. Neum, itself, is a small resort at the end of the Nerevantski Kanal, pitched along steep slopes. You can use any konvertible markas from BiH if you have been there or everywhere will take Croatian kunas, as well.

Nude Islands in Croatia

by mehbal

There are many nude islands near Hvar island. If you are not comfortable with it, do not go there. When you get there you have to wait until afternoon. Otherwise you have to pay again for return.i am not sure whether i remember its name correctly .I think it is Jeronim.
