In March Samobor Salami Day takes place in the town of Samobor where, in a competition for the best salami, small details will be the determining factors in deciding the winner among these delicacies with a brand characteristic of the Zagreb region. The tradition of making salami is nurtured within most families in Samobor, and the recipes have been strictly followed for decades. They are made from the best parts of pork meat, with added salt, pepper and traces of garlic. There was a time when all hosts would gladly show off their fine wine and salami-making skills to their guests. Therefore, gatherings were organized at different hosts’ houses every evening, in order to sample a variety of wine as well as salami.
Salami Days are traditional customs in Northern Croatia and Northeastern parts of Slovenia. Therefore, the people of Samobor, and their neighbors from Brežice in Slovenia, have proven themselves as the best salami makers around. The secret of salami preparation lies in the ability to determine the right mix of ingredients, time spent smoking and drying the meat, methods of storing, etc. Salami Days, which are standard gastronomic tourism manifestations by now, help to preserve the tradition of old recipes in brand production. Therefore, a great number of visitors are expected at this year’s Salami Day manifestation, where they will be able to taste salamis of all producers and enjoy the flavors of these specialties that Samobor is widely known for, along with its famous kremšnite cakes.

The narrow-gauge railway to Samobor was opened in 1901. For many years it was a popular means to get to Samobor. Unfortunately, it's no longer. But you can see the last train as a monument next to a playground. Unfortunately it's full of graffiti.

It is very pleasant to stroll along the river and to take a walk in the surrounding hills. Along the river near the museum you will find benches to relax. If you are fit enough you can even take a longer walk uphill to the remains of the of castle. The ruins seem to be interesting but I couldn't check them out as not all my VT friends were properly equipped for the walk. You can spot the ruins from near the museum but I couldn't take a picture as the sun was totally in the wrong place.

This square is the heart of Samobor with beautiful buildings, lots of cafés and restaurants, the view of the St. Anastazija church and Gradna river. Depending from which side you approached you will have to cross a bridge. The tourist office is in the official looking building with the flags out.
