Falling asleep in one city and waking up in another has got to be the perfect way to travel so for me the 204 train which leaves Zagreb Glavni Kolod at 23:35 and arrives at Venice Santa Lucia at 07.16 is wonderful.
The overnight service is the only direct train so it’s as easy as it gets and you could get around 7 hours sleep.
I don’t know that you can buy your ticket online without an agency fee so do like craic says and get it at the station but if you intend to take the sleeper you need to do it in advance because travelling on the overnight train is subject to a compulsory reservation.

The Zagreb train station has a left luggage facility. I have used it twice and haven't had any trouble with it. You have to pay about $2 per bag per day, but if you're only going to walk around for a little while or spend just the night it can be worth it. When you enter the station, turn right and walk to the end of hallway. There will be a man working the counter and you just hand him your bags and he'll give you a ticket. Hold onto the tickets because you'll need them to collect your luggage again later.

If you are planning on touring around Slovenia, Austria, Croatia then this pass might be the one for you. Once again, I would caution against the higher priced pass because it is incredibly cheap to travel within Slovenia and Croatia. The good part is that you won't have to worry about buying tickets.
4 days in 2 months $200.00
Additional Rail Days $30.00

The new pass is this: Any 5, 6, 8, 10 days unlimited 1st class train travel in a 2-month period on the national rail networks of Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia.
5 days in 2 months $200.00
6 days in 2 months $220.00
8 days in 2 months $260.00
10 days in 2 months $300.00
This would only be worth it if you're planning on traveling long distances between the countries. These countries are very cheap to travel within so I would think twice between buying the $300 pass. The 1st class bit is a good deal, however, because there is a significant difference between first and second classes on these trains.
