  • Gornji grad - the Upper Town

    4.5 out of 5 stars

    Zagreb Things to Do

During my first visit to Zagreb I was interesting to explore historical core of Zagreb. Upper town (Croatian: Gornji grad) is popular tourist attraction in Zagreb. Interesting is that this part of Zagreb under this name officially existed since 14 December 1999. According to Statute of City of Zagreb since then Gornji Grad, Kaptol. Šalata and...

Delicious food, across the board. I have been eating here since I had been a child and returned recently after many years absence, it is just as wonderful as I remember it. One thing you must try is the Lamb on the Spit, it is a house specialty and not to be missed. Best time to have it when it just comes off the fire, so succulent. Definitely have...

Velika Gorica Off The Beaten Path

Unique features of Turopolje are wooden chapels and aristocratic kurias - traditional wooden country houses - often referred to as Turopolje beauties. The area is rich in oak, one of the main natural resources. Oak is the reason why these wooden sacral and temporal buildings were built. The chapel of Woonded Christ is situated in the close vicinity...

    Hudi Bitek Things to Do

Utrina was built after Zapruðe and the architects learnt from their mistakes. There are much more different types of buildings here, flats are better and there's different sizes of flats available. As Zapruðe - which is just across the road - has a supermarket, Utrina got a market instead. There even is a small fish market here!

    Hudi Bitek Local Customs

There are many restaurants and cafés in Novi Zagreb. There's shopping in every neighbourhood, many playgrounds for kids and youth or cultural centres. So Novi Zagreb isn't the dormitory town you would expect it to be. People don't only sleep here. We had a nice cake break in Utrina, the Kremšnita here was even tastier than in cafés in Zagreb....

    Hudi Bitek Local Customs

People who live in Novi Zagreb are very proud of their neighbourhoods, e.g. Zapruðe had an official website before Zagreb had one. As in socialist times people were given a flat and couldn't choose where they wanted to move mostly young families moved here in the 60s. Today the people who live here are 2nd generation Novi Zagreb people, their kids...

  • At Zdenka's Aunt - "Tal's" dog

    Bregana Favorites

For almost the whole time we were visiting at Zdenka's aunts, the dog was hiding under the bench and would not come out, only to the edge. But just as we were leaving he took a chance on us and came out to meet us, but especially Tal. As Zdenka, her aunt and Zohara look on, Tal does the doggy. You can bet your last dollar that poor dog is saying to...

  • Zdenka's aunt, "Lets Talk"

    Bregana Favorites

This was the funny part.....I do not speak Croatian very well, you can take my word for that (or if not my word, you can ask Zdenka, Boris or Hrvojka...;O)))))When we visited with Zdenka's aunt, we had to learn to speak with our eyes, hands and bodies because she also spoke no English, so we had a fun time making each other understood and then...

  • Zdenka's Aunt - a welcome at home

    Bregana Favorites

This lovely lady sitting on my right hand is Zdenka's aunt who lives in Bregana. She welcomed the strangers (yes us) into her home and made us feel at home for several hours. This was one of the unexpected delights of our trip, meeting this very warm and charming woman.
