On arrival in Zagreb, don't forget to pick up a free map of the town at the Tourist Information. It includes proposals for walking routes and an overview of the tram network and the bus terminals.
The main Tourist Information Office of Zagreb is located at the main square (Trg bana Jelacica 11). The staff is friendly and helpful.

The tourist office in Zagreb is very good with providing free maps etc. You cannot buy the inyourpocket guide at kiosks but you can ask for it at the tourist office. Make sure you ask for the brochure with the self-guided walks.

The tourist office is located on Trg (Square) bana Jelacica.

Depending on the season, be prepared for the weather.
Winter is usually very cold, and the temperature often goes below zero. So be sure to pack warm clothes (jumpers, coats, ski jackets, scarf, cap, mittens etc) and shoes suitable for snow and rain. A raincoat or an umbrella is also recommended.

Although in the last few years transitional periods like spring and autumn have practically vanished, be prepared for some heavy rain should you decide to visit us in April or October. The weather can be quite unpredictable in this period so you might expect low temperatures as well as high, and showers out of the blue. Keep that in mind while packing - bring some warm clothes but also light one.

Summer heat usually starts at the beginning of June and goes on until beginning of September. In this period be prepared for very high temperatures (30-40 C) and bring summer clothes.
Mosquito repellent is recommended, especially if the summer is hot and rainy (like this year).

Zagreb is a continental city, but still has a beach of its own, though it's nothing comparable to the beautiful Adriatic coast. Still it is somewhat helpful to those who have to stay in the city during those hot months.
You can pretend you're on vacation somewhere on the coast if you go to lake Jarun. It's even possible to swim, so take your swimsuit, towel and the rest of your beach gear with you.

If Jarun is not exactly tempting, you can still check some of the swimming pools.

Croatia's currency is the Kuna. I was told that I shouldn't change money at the railway station because of the commission there. I then actually got my Kunas out of a ATM machine. One Euro is about 7,4 Kuna (April 07).

Zagreb can be much colder than the towns along the coast so be prepared with appropriate clothing.

Make sure you bring your photo gear so that you'll be able to capture all of Zagreb's stately buildings and interesting architectural details.

Hotel Esplanade in Mihanoviceva street is the most beautiful hotel of Zagreb, built in 1925. It is the Classic yesteryear type of hotel. It was completely renovated, few years ago, and joined to the Regent Hotel Group.
The first picture, very dear to me, was made by clasiccal film camera, while the other picture with digital one.

The most attractive building in the Upper Town, the Vojkovic-Orsic-Rauch Mansion in Antuna Gustava Matosa street, at the present time the Croatian History Museum.

Both, the Upper and the Down Town, looks very attractibe under the night illuminations, especially some palaces and galleries. Feel free to walk, even alone, throughout this areas because you'll be very safe here.
