Vincek is the best known pastry shop in the city of Zagreb. It is always very crowded and hard to get free table inside of it. During the summer season the people stands outside of it waiting to get extraordinary self-made ice-cream, which is the best you have ever had.
This August my Italian friends with two small girls have visited Zagreb. Their girls were delightful with the ice-cream at Vincek, taking it two times each day.
Favorite Dish: Open from Monday to Saturday 08:30-23:00, closed on Sundays.

Every tourist that has ever been down Tkalciceva has seen Ivica i Marica I bet. It's a small cafe located inside the house of Hänsel & Gretel from Grimm's fairytale. It looks like it's bought second hand from Disneyland and it definitely looks like a tourist trap. Well, what can I say? It isn't! Go in and find out!
Next door to the cakes place the same owners opened an organic restaurant under the same name now. We came here for a VT dinner in 2005 and I really enjoyed the food and the company.
Favorite Dish: The "organic" cakes, especially the cheesecake, are wonderful. The mushroom risotto I had in the restaurant next door was lovely too, and so were the traditional Croatian starters we all shared.
What's even better, however, is the apple juice they serve in both places. It tastes like directly from the tree!

Ivica & Marica patisserie (translated as Hansel & Gretel) is a unique place as it serves a wide variety of cakes with a healthy twist; all ingredients used are fresh, free range, whole grain. Except cakes they have healthy savory snacks. The place is not unique just because of it's range and quality of produce but it actually looks like a house made from sweets on the outside (it's just like in the Hansel & Gretel story; except there's no witch inside waiting for you).
Favorite Dish: I have not tried one cake that wasn't really good, but my two favorites are: Crustada od višanja (crunchy pastry with cherries and cheese); Međimurska gibanica (layers of tissue-thin layers of pastry with walnuts, cheese, poppy seeds, apples).

Can't talk right now -- I have a mouthful of chocolate and orange cake (Narancina pjesma -- singing orange?)...maybe I'll make my way towards the chocolate fountain later on...then again I'll have another coffee, perhaps Kras Cappuccino Irish...Oh, it's so difficult to decide! The cafe is warm and inviting, the staff attentive and you might want to try every delicate choco morsel in the menu.
Favorite Dish: The moister than moist chocolate cakes. All of them. The cafe also stocks a great selection of the legendary Kras chocolate. There's no such thing as too much chocolate! Oh, and the coffee...

great ice-cream shop, with different ice-cream flavors. it's situated in one on the busy coffee/restaurants streets. you can take your ice-cream to go or enjoy it at the outside terrace. if you prefer the latter, take into account that it would take you some time to find an available table in the evenings. there are dozens people like you trying to do the same ;)
Favorite Dish: I have had several flavors, but Rocky Road and Amaretto are still my favorites.

Torte i to(in english= Cakes and that) is a recenetly opened cafe with great cakes. Situated in Kaptol centar (shopping center in Tkalciceva street). It offers top quality cakes, one of the best in Zagreb. It has a nice outdoor terrace, indoor smoking and no-smoking department.
The cakes may cost few kunas more than in most Dessert shops in Zagreb (15 kunas for a cake to be exact), but it is worth it!
Favorite Dish: Cheese cake

This is definitely the best place to eat various kind of cakes and ice-creams in Zagreb. I LOVE it. It is situated in the centre of Zagreb,in it's main street Ilica near the Square of Ban Jelacic. It is always full and there are queques, but waiting is worth, trust me.
Favorite Dish: Ice cream, definitely. Especially in the summer when there are so many different tastes that you really have to think before you decide. And portions are large.
Zagrebacke kremšnite, bohem kocke, Vincek cake, and many many different desserts.
