Slasticarnica "Ivica i Marica"

This is the most favorite kids place (and not only for the kids) in Tkalciceva ulica, pastry shop called "Ivica & Marica" (John and Mary). Here the fable story has become the reality.

Well, when in Zagreb visitor have to try kremshnita, which is the most popular and best known dessert. Also, if in late autumn, you have to try maron's cakes.

Nakon duge i iscrpljujuce setnje gradom, Mark aka Acemj je izgledao tako lose da smo ga morali povratiti u normalu. Za takvo sto postoje dvije opcije, jedna je umjetno disanje, ali Niksa i ja nismo znali kako se to radi. Druga opcija je bila da covjeku damo secera ili nesto slatko. Kako smo se nasli u blizini slasticarnice, odlucili smo se za ovo drugo rjesenje.

Kremshnita ala Zagrebiensis, of course.

This is definitely the best place to eat various kind of cakes and ice-creams in Zagreb. I LOVE it. It is situated in the centre of Zagreb,in it's main street Ilica near the Square of Ban Jelacic.It is always full and there are queques,but waiting is worth,trust me.

Ice cream,definitely. Especially in the summer when there are so many different tastes that you really have to think before you decide. And portions are large.
Zagrebacke kremšnite,bohem kocke, Vincek cake, and many many different desserts.

Vincek is the best known pastry shop in the city of Zagreb. It is always very crowded and hard to get free table inside of it. During the summer season the people stands outside of it waiting to get extraordinary self-made ice-cream, which is the best you have ever had.

Vincek is definately the BEST dessert place in Zagreb. It has so many ice cream flavours that it always takes you a long time to decide. And they have interesting flavors, along with the standards.

Well I obviously can't pick one. BUT the cakes and baked goods are AMAZING and once you get a slice of cake or what not you must get a scoop of ice cream with it! But let me warn you the portions are BIG!

Well, originally we wanted to go to a place that both Boris and Niksa suggested for some strukli (see local customs), but the place was closed, so we ended up going to this pastry shop (slasticarnica). We had some good coffee and another local delicacy called, Kremsnita, which was great.

Well the menu had wonderful pictures of different ice cream desserts.The one she wanted wasn't available. The next one she wanted, they didn't have the ingredients to. When she ordered another, we waited in anticipation for the waiter to give us the thumbs up.....finally he said ok.

Since when do you not get what you ordered? The dish that came out was the complete opposite of what my dear friend ordered....It was an ode to the USA and quite embarassing for 2 girls who like to stay undercover. There were firecrackers and sparkles, RED, WHITE & BLUE. People walking by were staring....our luggage is still lost. Will anything transpire the way we want it to?

Favorite? don't know....didn't get anything we wanted

Well anyways, I guess you won't want to go here anyways. I didn't quite sell the place. hehehee

Perfect spot for
peoplewatching in Zagreb

We were frozen while walking around and Thomas was craving for one of these great Croatian coffees. This is how we found our favourite place to kill time in Zagreb: Kavana Dubrovnik which belongs to Hotel Dubrovnik, one of the oldest coffeehouses in Zagreb. It's located right at the main square opposite the tram stop. Make sure to sit at one of the large windows and enjoy the peoplewatching here, after a while you will have seen everybody who is walking around Zagreb that day!!!

We came here every afternoon afterwards and spent HOURS here. Even the waiter knew us in the end ;-) It never got boring.... and the cakes were delicious, too.

great ice-cream shop, with different ice-cream flavors. it's situated in one on the busy coffee/restaurants streets. you can take your ice-cream to go or enjoy it at the outside terrace. if you prefer the latter, take into account that it would take you some time to find an available table in the evenings. there are dozens people like you trying to do the same ;)

I have had several flavors, but Rocky Road and Amaretto are still my favorites.

Ivica & Marica patisserie (translated as Hansel & Gretel) is a unique place as it serves a wide variety of cakes with a healthy twist; all ingredients used are fresh, free range, whole grain. Except cakes they have healthy savory snacks. The place is not unique just because of it's range and quality of produce but it actually looks like a house made from sweets on the outside (it's just like in the Hansel & Gretel story; except there's no witch inside waiting for you).

I have not tried one cake that wasn't really good, but my two favorites are: Crustada od višanja (crunchy pastry with cherries and cheese); Međimurska gibanica (layers of tissue-thin layers of pastry with walnuts, cheese, poppy seeds, apples).
