Dinner at Nocturno

I had heard the name of this restaurant many times before basically because almost every VTer has been here before I think. And they all came for a reason. The food here was lovely and so were the incredibly low prices.

I had chicken risotto which was way too much and very tasty.

Nokturno offers a wide selection of italian food (pasta and pizza). It seems to be popular among VT members and other travellers.

The food is delicious and surprisingly cheap for the central location of the place. Nokturno has a nice little outdoor terrace facing the cobbled alley.

The sauces here are wonderful. Sorry I did not get a good photo. Here is one of the oldest streets in Zagreb. This restaurant is along this street at the top end. However, it has wonderfully terraced decks with three tables on each. Look for the red awnings with Karlovacka beer advertised. And have a o.5 L of the beer here!

The two dishes I love are: Chicken breast in herb cream sauce and chicken breast in mushrooms and truffles.

Sorry but you can't actually see the restaurant on my photo! -- anyway, it's on the right hand side of that street which is called Skalinska -- it's off Tkalciceva in the old town area.

Italian restaurant with a varied menu - went there a couple of times and really enjoyed it.

In the background you can see the twin spires of the Cathedral, built in 1899.

Nokturno is located just off of Tkalciceva not far away from Trg bana Jelacica. Niksa and I tried to get a table in here to try some strukli one night, but the place was too packed, so I came back on my own another night. Gotta hand it to this place for having a good atmosphere and being packed with a good crowd.

I tried a dish called the Zagreb Steak (see a photo in my local customs), which is a breaded and fried steak. It wasn't the greatest thing I've ever had. The taste wasn't bad, but It was a little overbreaded.

Everyone seems to know this little pizza place that is on the same street as Restaurant Leonardo! I loved the quatro fromaggio pizza!

Nykaenen & danijelita took me to this place on a Saturday afternoon. A great choice if you are hungry and feel like pizza or pasta. Actually, I would say that it was one of the best Pizzas I ever had.

You go downstairs to enter the actual restaurant. Upstairs there is a bar with the same name. Toilets are halfway down the stairs. The restaurant has a wide selection of dishes. I ate "spaghetti carbonara".

This restaurant is an all-time favourite for VTers and VT meetings. It has very low prices and it is therefore always full. In the warm season you can sit outside in the alley.

Nokturno has got to be the best pizza place in the Zagreb center! Although I prefer small, local & familiar pizza places, I often take friends who are visiting there. It's located between the Dolac market at Opatovina & Tkalčićeva street. You can get there from ban Jelačić square, going towards the north, passing the phone booths & turning left before the stairs. Nokturno is situated in the first street on the right [almost right opposite the famous Krvavi most - Blood bridge] & it offers a great & charming view of the Cathedral towers. The street is located in the pedestrian zone & is pretty steep, but the location is great! You can sit outside during the summer, but it's almost always crowded.

The atmosphere is cozy, the staff nice & the prices reasonable. I suggest you go there & enjoy a pizza the Croatian way! ;)
