The picture was taken from the Lotrscak tower and it shows the Baroque church of St. Catherine, built in the beginning of the 17th century by Jesuits. The church is thought to be one of the most beautiful and most fully preserved Baroque monuments. Do not miss to see its famous wall paintings and sculptures.

The church of St. Cahterine is one of the most beautiful Zagreb churches. It was erected between 1620 and 1632 in the place of the Dominican church that used to stand there. The building was damaged several times by fires and quakes, but most of its Baroque elements on the outside have been preserved as well as the inside sections. It has works of important artist as the Italian Antonio Quadrio who made the stucco , Giulio Quaglia author of the big medallions with scenes from St. Catherine's life on the ceiling, Francesco Robba (with works in Ljubljana) who made the altar of St. Ignacio or the fresco with St. Catherine among Alexandrine philosophers and writers by Kristof Andrej Jelovsek.

Kamenita Vrata (The Stone Gate) was one of the four original entries into the walled Gornji Grad of the feudal period. In 1731 a fire destroyed much of the town , but legend say that a vision of the Virgin Mary was spotted in the ashes and protected this place. Believers come here to pray and pin up postcards and plaques of thanks for answered prayers that you can see in the walls. Outside is the Saint George´s statue.

St. Mark's Church is the visual centerpiece of Markov Trg, the most important square of Gradec. The distinguishing feature of this church built in 13th century is the bright and colorfully tiled roof dating from the 19th century, with the coats of arms of Croatia, Zagreb, and the regions of Dalmatia and Slavonia.

The Jesuit church of sv. Katarina (St. Catherine) was built between 1620 and 1632 on the model of the Roman II Gesu Church. It is famous for its wall paintings and sculptures, and is thought to be one of the most beautiful and most fully preserved Baroque monuments.
The church is situated in the Upper Town, on Catherine's Square, named after Katarina Zrinska, a poetess and the wife of the Croatian viceroy Petar Subic Zrinski.

On my first day in Zagreb we went to the city museum so that I could dive into its history straight away. We were late so we had the whole place to ourselves which was really nice. You will find interesting bits and details about Zagreb from prehistoric times to today here.
My favourite in here were the angel statues, the advertising posters of the 20th century, the room where models are placed on a city map telling you about the horseshoe of parks.
The museum - which is placed in beautiful old convent building - is a great place to get a feel for the city. I can only recommend spending an hour here before exploring the city.
The museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 10am - 6pm and on weekends from 10 am to 1 pm. Closed on mondays.

It is an ideal place for intimate walks, conversations and romantic dates. It has a special, little mysterious spirit and that is one of the reasons it's my favourite place in town when I need to be alone.

It's the place from where you can see the greatest view on whole Zagreb. Indoor is a museum and there is also one special thing you have to be carefull of...Every day in 12:00 sharp a cannon that is at the top of Kula Lotrscak blasts as a reminder of croatian victory over Turks in 15th century

The colourful roof of St. Mark's church is one of my favourite features of Zagreb. The multicoloured tiles form the coat of arms of the kingdom of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia (left). The right coat of arms is the city's symbol.

OK let's leave the quiet place --- and go towards the quietest area of Zagreb - the upper town. Walk uphill and on your left side you will see the old pharmacy which has been there since the 14th century. It was founded in 1350, from 1399 it belonged to Nicolo Alighieri, great-grandson of Dante Alighieri.
Nowadays it got some competition though, there are pharmacies basically at every corner in Zagreb. At least it seemed like it, that green cross was everywhere I looked (a bit like the magenta ads ;)
