Zagreb Funicular Railway by grantravel Quite possibly the shortest furnicular, or indeed any tracked transportation, in the world. Starting just off Ilica you can hitch a ride for 3kn up to the base of the Lotrscak Tower that guards the entrance to Gorni Grad, that is of course if you can’t be bothered to spend 30 seconds climbing the steps that run up the side of the tracks. Great for the lazy amongst us! Open daily: 06:30-21:00 Leave a Comment Address: Tomiceva bbPhone: (+385-1) 483 39 12

Zagreb St Mark's Church by grantravel This 19th century church replaced an original one from the 13th century and includes many works of Ivan Mestrovic, Croatia's most famous sculptor. The colourful roof was tiled in the late 1800's and depicts the coats of arms of Croatia, Slavonia, Dalmatia, and Zagreb. The day we were there they had a big green fence around where they were escavating out the front grounds of the church. We asked the workers and they said they were looking for some old buried artifacts. Leave a Comment Directions: St Mark's Church is located in the upper town of Zagreb in St Mark's Square

Zagreb St Catherine Church by grantravel 'The Church of St. Catherine is one of the most beautiful sacral baroque edifices in Zagreb. It was built by the Jesuits between 1620 and 1632 to replace a Dominican church of the same name. The church had been damaged several times in fires and earthquakes, but its rich and very stable baroque interior and exterior have been largely preserved. Most of the artwork and the inventory of the church dates from the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century. The stucco was done by the Italian master Antonio Quadrio around 1720, and the large medallions containing scenes from the life of St. Catherine, located on the nave’s ceiling, by Italian painter Giulio Quaglie several years later. Especially valuable is the altar of St. Ignatius, the work of sculptor Francesco Robba, and the High Altar dating from 1762 behind which is the illusionist fresco of St. Catherine among Alexandrine philosophers and writers, the work of Krištof Andrej Jelovšek from the same year.' No need to worry if you're broke, checking out Crkva sv. Katarine (St. Catherine Church) is free of charge as is a dips worth of holy water. It's in the southeast corner of Gornji Grad. Zagreb Lotrscak Tower by grantravel The Lotrscak is a four-sided tower which was erected in the mid 13th century by the southern city walls. It had its fourth floor added in the mid 19th century when the widows were also put in.
