This is really one for Brits only. The Cypriot pound is one of the few currencies in the world were you get more than 1 per £Sterling - Exchange rate on 15th October is 1GBP = 0.84 £CY.
It is easy to fall into a trap of thinking prices aren't too bad because a bottle of beer is 2 pounds. It sounds nice and homely but the price is obviously 2 Cypriot pounds which works out at 2.39GBP. Leave a Comment

Beware cockroackes are everywhere in Ayia. We had five in our apt which was very clean but very hot. They are best killed with a heavy blow from a water bottle. Hairspray doesn't work!
Also never leave opened food anywhere apart from in the fridge or you will get ants. Not evil ants but mysterious ants that appear out of nowhere.

Remember to drink plenty of water in hot weather. It is essential to avoid dehydration when you spend your time partying. When I was working there it was amazing how many people ended up in hospital with dehydration.
In July and August things are particularly bad. If you go out on a night drinking alcohol try and drink water as well. I used to carry a bottle of water with me for emergencies. Even in some of the bars (particularly by the time we hit River Reggae) I was actually drinking one or two bottles of water in between the other drinks. Leave a Comment

The one problem with Ayia Npa now compared to the early 90s is that many people know about it, compared to several years ago, which cause anybody to come over. recently there has been stories of young english holiday makers getting beaten up and even killed for no reson, this also has to do with the amout of cheap shots of alchol that is give to you on entry to a club. Almost every hotel as a deal with a bar. That means that they will only talk about this bar and how good it is, and you will think that it is the only place worth going to.. You will probably get a lot of offers like "half price entrance" or free entrance. Just remember that there are other great clubs in ayia napa and don't do what I did, and hang around the ame bars all the time. Just spend a night barhopping, and you'll know what there is. I've been to many places in the Mediterrainean sea, but Ayia Napa/Cyprus was extreme when it came down to heat and sun. We got burned badly several times and became overheated which resulted in nausea and headaches, we even had trouble breathing at times. Just be careful! Everyone want to enjoy the sun and the sea, but if you're feeling too hot, cool down or move inside immediately.

In Ayia Napa there are a lot of party cruises organized. Well in some of these partyboats there are people filming and sometimes they even hide cameras in the boat. After the cruise they sell these videos to people, and make o alot of money. So be aware of what you're doing on the party cruise, if you don't want to be part of amature-porn or something, because that's what's happened to some people, they go off making out somewhere without knowing they're beeing filmed :D The partycruise is a LOT OF fun, but as I said, be careful what you do, or at least think twice before you try to sneak off in the boat! Lot of violence from bouncers and bar owners in Agio Napa. This is normally caused by the barstaff hitting on the young girlfriend of a British tourist and then a violent reaction leading to more violence Go armed or with a lot of friends to these bars to protect yourself. Also these bar workers have a lot of sexual diseases so be warned. Be careful and don't get blind drunk.

On every street you could find a promoter for a bar.. You can always accept the tickets, and look at them, if it sound nice then check it out, but always read the fine print, and don't be surprised if the ticket isn't valid or if it'äs completely fake.
I've heard some rumours about girls beeing pulled in to cars and been raped because they've been walking alone somwhere. So always have a friend with you and get ready to run, and take the streets with streetlights.
Stupid tourists doesn't get that the traffic there runs on the left. So they rent scooters and drive on the wrong lane! We heard and saw crashes all the time. People also drive drunk and carelessly there. Leave a Comment
