Political discussions should be avoided

It is best to avoid discussion of the various merits of the Greek-Turkish divide and events beginning in 1963 in some quarters. Any sully of Archbishop Makarios will be looked down upon.

Discussions on the political situation should be prohibited.

Stay Safe

Agia Napa street scene

Cyprus is a remarkably safe country, with very little violent crime. Cars and houses frequently go unlocked. That said however, it is wise to be careful when accepting drinks from strangers, especially in Ayia Napa or Protaras, since there have been numerous occasions of muggings.

Note also that the numerous Cypriot "cabarets" are not what their name implies but rather brothels associated with organized crime.

Take Precautions in case of a heatwave!

Prottect yourselves from the sun

The island, lying in the east of the Mediterranean, is a hugely popular destination and attracts thousands of tourists coming throughout the world each year.

Cyprus is in the grip of a heatwave with temperatures in places reaching a searing 43 degrees Celsius. Visitors are advised to take precautions against the extreme heat by drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration, the main cause of heat exhaustion.

Don't stay in the sun for longer than one hour, especially not between midday and 4 pm.
If you want to enjoy the beach get up early in the morning.

Bottled Wine is expensive!

Dining out in Agia Napa

Bottled wine is quite expensive in restaurants.
Ask for a carafe instead.
Cyprus wine is of good quality, and I am sure even if you ask to be brought a carafe the quality will still be excellent.
(Besides you can ask to try it).

Another alternative is to ask for a glass of wine instead of the whole bottle.

Caribbean like beaches in Agia Napa!

It can be windy sometimes but the geographic locations of the surrounding beaches means that it is possible to find a sheltered beach even on windy days.

And believe me Agia Napa is the Best resort with Caribbean-like beaches!!!

the pavement inside the monastery

The pavement inside the monastery is a bit dangerous, because it consists just of ordinary stones fixed on the ground and by the centuries these stones became really very slippery, even when they are totally dry, so please take a look where you go !
In general Cyprus is almost impossible to travel through, when you are sitting in a wheelchair, the sidewalks are extremely uneven and you will find lots of obstacles everywhere.

If you are travelling to Ayia Napa please realise you could end up dead or completely skint. T he owner and workers at BEDROCK PUB ARE INVOLVED IN BEATING UP YOUNG LADS AND THEN GETTING THEM ARRESTED SO THEY HAVE TO PAY COMPENSATION. My son and his friend had the crap kicked out of them then spent 4 days in nick and we then paid over 12000 euros to ensure they were realised safely and could go home. This is the stark reality of whats going on in Ayia Napa. If you are thinking of visiting there I would think again. MY SON WAS HIT WITH BATS TEARGASED AND KICKED BLACK AND BLUE. This was his first holiday away from his family and also his last.

I am putting this in as a warning to all future holiday makers not to judge every worker (bar person, holiday rep, beach workers et al) by the warning posted on this page "STD's by workers". Yes there are some resort workers who will give a knee trembler to anyone willing but the sweeping statement implies that all workers are at it and that every holiday maker wants to have sex within hours of getting off the plane. The whole tone of the warning is grossly unfair to the majority of workers and holiday makers in any resort/country and it is completely avoiding the real problem of the amount of young and not so young workers/holiday makers and everyone else who continue unprotected sex with anyone on holiday or at any other time!!

I think anyone old enough to holiday without their parents and who choses to have sex within minutes/hours/days of meeting someone should be protecting themselves as a matter of course.

Safe sex is the responsibility of everyone, once you practice that the only lesson you need to learn is that certain members of the opposite sex will tell you anything to get you into bed!!

A lot of violence in Agia Napia
Paul999 profile photo
Paul999 9 reviews

Lot of violence from bouncers and bar owners in Agio Napa. This is normally caused by the barstaff hitting on the young girlfriend of a British tourist and then a violent reaction leading to more violence Go armed or with a lot of friends to these bars to protect yourself. Also these bar workers have a lot of sexual diseases so be warned. Be careful and don't get blind drunk.

It's very very hot and the sun is strong!

I've been to many places in the Mediterrainean sea, but Ayia Napa/Cyprus was extreme when it came down to heat and sun. We got burned badly several times and became overheated which resulted in nausea and headaches, we even had trouble breathing at times. Just be careful! Everyone want to enjoy the sun and the sea, but if you're feeling too hot, cool down or move inside immediately.
