Agrotourism on the Troodos range

by greekcypriot

The Troodos area offers various options for lodging in stunningly beautiful areas such as those of Kalopanagiotis, Kakopetria, Kyperounta, Spilia and Platres. These villages are located in high altitude mongst lavish green mountains and fresh air and exemplify the island's rich history and culture.I spent some days a week ago up to the village of Kalopanagiotis and I highly recommend it.People who prefer the charm of a quiet, rural environment to the hustle and bustle of a tourist resort can opt to stay at a traditional house in a village, in accommodation know in Cyprus as "Agrotourism".Tip: Get the booklet with all the Houses of Agrotourism from any Tourist Office in Cyprus. There are plenty to choose from, even though you can choose from several from those I have visited myself. My fondest memory in Troodos was when I spent some days at Olga's Katoi in Kalopanagiotis. The people were...

Restaurant Tips in Cyprus

by greekcypriot

Ask the taverna owner what they are cooking that day and what is available for you to try.Whatever they are cooking, they will be eating themselves so you can be SURE it will be fresh. They will also be using seasonal fruit and vegetables so you can be certain you will never have the same meal twice. Lucky to be a Cypriot myself, and you as visitors being in Cyprus!!!!We have the freshest fruit and vegetables imaginable.Everything TASTES so good, as most Cyprus food is freshly picked the morning you buy it.As the quality of the produce is so good, it follows that you will get a great meal in most tavernas.THE BEST FOOD is made by taverna owners who have one love in life - FOOD!Now don't expect white table cloths or fancy cutlery in the mountain villages AND don't expect to be offered a huge menu.In fact, don't even bother to ask for the menu!

Kyrenia, in North Cyprus

by greekcypriot

Kyrenia (Girne in Turkish) is located on the north coast of Cyprus. With its fantastic sandy beaches, its charming Venetian harbour full of yachts, fishing boats and restaurants, its shops, its historical places and its five-finger mountain, Kyrenia is the most popular town of North Cyprus. My fondest memory as a Cypriot goes back to those days when Cyprus was one Greek island and not seperated like now.I remember going to Kyrenia, and my memories from those days are the best. We often used to go there, however it is much different now.You will see the great difference between the north and south immediately no matter if the place you are visiting is Kyrenia or another more popular place.Life in the north is really different. I am dreaming of those days and also the day when the Turkish troops will leave the island for good.

If you are Fond of Casinos visit the North Cyprus

by greekcypriot

North Cyprus CasinosNorth Cyprus boasts more than 20 casinos available for those who would like to try their luck and live entertainment and activities, and would like to try something different. North Cyprus has become like small Las Vegas with its popular casinos with every sort of game such as blackjack, roulette, poker, slots and more. Most of the Casinos in North Cyprus are located in Kyrenia, and there are some in Famagusta and Nicosia. On special days North Cyprus casinos invite famous singers from Turkey to create an enjoyable time.Because I am not at all fond of casinos I believe that you will go there to JUST LOSE your money! If you have so much, dare it!

North Cyprus Border Crossing

by greekcypriot

In April 2003 a very interesting development took place in Cyprus. For the first time since 1974 the borders were opened in Cyprus for the benefit of Cypriots. This allowed the Greek Cypriots to visit North and the Turkish Cypriots to visit the South of the island. Most Cypriots welcomed the opportunity to visit their old homes and meet with their old family. You may well notice that the weekends are busier in the Kyrenia harbour and in Bellapais with Greek Cypriots and many are once again making the pilgrimage to St. Andreas in Karpaz in Northern Cyprus.

Business Hours in Cyprus

by greekcypriot

Throughout Cyprus, restaurants are open from 11am to 2pm and from 7.30pm to 11pm daily. PUBLIC SERVICE hours are 7.30am to 3.30pm weekdays and also 3pm to 6pm Thursday (September to June), or 7.30am to 2.30pm weekdays (July to August).SHOPPING HOURS vary by season. In summer (June to mid-September), shops open at around 8.30am and close at around 7.30pm weekdays. In the major cities there is an afternoon break from 1pm to 4pm. In spring and autumn (April to May and mid-September to October), shops close at 7pm, and in the winter period (November to March) at 6pm. On Wednesday and Saturday early closing is at 2pm, and shops do not open on Sunday.Banks maintain somewhat shorter hours: 8.30am to 12.30pm weekdays as well as 3.15pm to 4.45pm on Monday. Protaras or Agia Napa for Summer?

by greekcypriot

The whole of Cyprus has beautiful beaches.Protaras best beach is the Fig Tree Bay, and Agia Napa have also similar beautiful beaches around the Nissi Beach.Agia Napa is mostly popular for its Nightlife, while Protaras has more quiet. If you are not so interested in Nighlife I suggest Protaras for sure. But I suggest that you don't spend all your days there. There is a bus that goes to Larnaca and I think spending a night or two in Larnaca is a must. You can probably book a hotel for the last two days in Larnaca so that you will be near the airport as well the last day. This will save you all that anxienty of the trip from Protaras to Larnaca....it is not much (about 40 minutes) but if you are in Larnaca you can be out in the beach till the last minute because the Airport terminal is just a ten minute drive, probably less.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CYPRUS

by greekcypriot

HOW SAFE IS CYPRUSIt is a remarkably safe country and still many Cypriots have their cars and houses frequently unlocked. However I would recommend not to do it purposely. You won’t find people snatching your bag while walking as in other countries, and you can walk safely in the evenings.DO I NEED A CAR WHEN ON THE ISLANDI would say, it depends on where you want to go. I you want to stay in Larnaca there is no need to hire a car. Everything is within a walking distance. There are buses that can take you to other nearby villages, like Agia Napa or Protaras, Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos. Other buses will take you to Lefkara and other villages in the Larnaca district. If you are on a short break and you plan to see Larnaca, it is no need to hire.Hire a car only if you plan to get around the island. Cypriots drive on the left side of the road, in keeping with British and British Commonwealth...
