ancient boat museum in the castle
This is a pretty interesting castle with a long and varied history that reflects that of the island. I am not going to get into all the details here. But in the castle there is a very interesting museum that contains a sunken boat that is 2300 years old. They pulled it up off the bottom of the sea where it sunk about one or two kilometers from the harbor of Kyrenia where it now rests. They found some really amazing stuff on this particular boat and proves how well-established trade was between Cyprus, the Fertile Crescent and the rest of the Meditteranean and Adriatic seas. Trade obviously flowed and flourished in all the products that the area is best known for even back then as well as the navigation and ocean going skills needed to transport goods over long distances. Such a find is a real time capsule of information for us to understand how they lived and worked in early times. Well...
