ferry from girne to antalya

by MrBill

I just tried to book a ferry trip from Kyrenia (Girne) to Antalya in Turkey for January, but the ferry company told me they only operate the ferry during the summer months. Darn! Oh well, here is the contact information for next time. I am definitely going to take the trip next summer. Two hours with the fast ferry. Four hours with the car ferry. Daily departures, weather permiting. Until then, Happy New Year! There are regular ferry services from Kyrenia and Famagusta to towns on the Southern coast of Turkey, namely Mersin, Antalya and Tasucu. From Mersin, it is possible to sail to Syria, Lebanon and Israel. FERGUN SHIPPING CO LTD. Driving in North Cyprus

by XenosUK

We hired a car from Sun RentaCar and were very impressed, since it was a virtually new Fiat Panda with only about 11,000km on the clock. The driving is reasonably easy, with most of the roads well signposted and tarmacced, but it can get a little hairy up in the mountains with the hairpin bends and the odd development work where the road seems to be being widened and the tarmac suddenly disappears. We managed to get lost a couple of times - once near the village of Degirmenlik where we missed a right turn and ended up at the gates of a military establishment, with two armed soldiers guarding the entrance. They seemed quite friendly though and directed us back to the correct road! The other time was when what appeared to be a road on the map suddenly turned into what seemed to be an army tank track and concerns for the underside of our car and its tyres persuaded us to turn around and try...

Sun Rent a Car

by peterdhduncan

We booked a car from Sun Rent a Car by e-mail a few days before leaving England. It was delivered to and collected from the hotel on time, and was clean and comfortable and drove well. Unfortunately, when we were way out on the Karpas Peninsula, it began to overheat. However, a replacement car arrived from Nicosia within three hours or so, which impressed us in view of the considerable distance involved.

Kombos taxi& dolmush

by erendilight

there are taxis (old mercedes benz) between Kyrenia and Nicosia and it takes 15 minutes to get from Kyrenia to Nicosia by them. the taxi drivers are very helpful and they give you all detailed information if you ask for..price between N and K is 2.5 YTL nearly 1.5 Euros. If you want to go further in the city (out of their usual direction) you have to pay 2 YTL more..the office is in the middle of the city called Ramadan Cemil Meydaný and you can find one dolmush every 15 minutes.

Getting to Kyrenia from Larnaca on a budget

by dd99

If you land at Larnaca and have to get to Kyrenia there are several options:The lazy way=>Get a taxi direct, either from the airport or prearranged by your hotel. This will cost about USD 100 each way.The budget way=>Get a taxi into town (5 CYP) to the Travel Express office. My taxi driver tried to convince me they were closed (don't believe the airport taxi drivers ! check at airport information if you are unsure). From the travel express office you will get a shared taxi (minivan) to Nicosia (5CYP) which will take about an hour, including the time they spend picking up other pax around town.Ask to be dropped off near Ledra Palace, and walk across the border. On the Turkish side, walk to the dolmush stops to Kyrenia (10 min walk). The dolmush (shared taxi, minivan but grottier) takes about 40 min and costs 2 YTL.The dolmush will drop you off at the city center, from where you can...

Remote resorts in Kyrenia

by dd99

Some of the hotels/resorts in Kyrenia are way out of the city. If you plan to rent a car or stay in the hotel most of your stay, no problem. Also, most hotels have shuttle services to town - but you should find out how often these run and when they stop. Shared taxis (dolmush) services stop at around 6 pm, and run on main routes only (ie do not pass by some hotels). If you are a ways out of town, it may cost up to 20 YTL or so for a taxi into town. You can get all this info by calling the hotel directly - I got the real answers from the hotels, not from the tour operators...
