Breakfast in the Sveltos Hotel: cheap & poor

This is the breakfast-buffet of the Sveltos-hotel: A large buffet-table with only a limited choice of food:
Toastbread and a tiny toaster for just 4 slices toasted at a time for the whole diningroom, a few scones, 2 sorts of cheap sausage, 1 sort of cheese, hard boild eggs, the only cereals were cornflakes and in the very beginning of breakfast-time there was also a large pot with a tiny rest of joghurt inside, it looked like a left-over from the kitchen. That jug was to totally empty after a few minutes and was taken away and never returned.
There were tomatoes as well and some hot dish that I do not remember, and I also did not taste it.

Favorite Dish: The best about the breakfast was the tea and the bit of Joghurt that I could grab in the very last minute before it was taken away! It was a cheap breakfast included in a cheap room-price and I did not leave this place hungry, so this is not really a complaint, but I think you should be prepared what you get there. For 1 day that is OK, for a few days its not !

This tavern is on Mackenzie Beach on the edge of Larnaca to the south. Service was good. The fish dishes came in order of size: shrimps; pieces of fried fish; calamari; octopus; squid cooked in its ink; red mullet; a slightly larger grey fish; then a white fleshed fish cut open.
Fortunately there were also some salads and mezze as Ii am not a great fish eater.
Dessert was water melon, gala melon and cherries.

Favorite Dish: The salad.
But there were no complaints from my colleagues who devoured everything, especially the calamari.

STARBUCKS COFFEE SHOP IN LARNACA: A Popular Coffee House

Starbucks
1 more image

Starbucks is another popular coffee shop in Larnaca.
(Free internet access).

I came here accidentally. I was previously sitting at Hobos which is a few steps away from Starbucks desperate and sad because it was not possible to have access to internet and do my work. I was at Hobos thinking that only there I could have a free internet access.
I left disappointed because even if the people there tried to help me connect it was not possible. Something was wrong with my laptop for sure.
As I approach Starbucks, I see people working on their laptops while enjoying their cup of coffee so I decide to sit and check if I can connect here, over a nice cup of coffee.
In a few minutes 3 of the people were trying to help me connect, and I was surprised indeed because even though they had work to do, they were there for me.

Favorite Dish: I had a Cappuccino for 3.65 euro which I enjoyed much.
The following days when down at the Phinikoudes Promenade I had the chance to taste other kinds too.
I enjoyed a cup of Tazo tea - a variety of black, green and herb tea for 2.55 euros,
and later on I tried a fresh ornage juice (grande) for 3.90, and the last day I tried an Espresso Freddo Supremo for 3.40.
I noticed that they have 3 different sizes. The tall which is 355ml, Grande 473 ml, and Venti 592ml.

Hobos Steak House and Cafe: A Popular Stake House!

Hobos Cafe in Phinikoudes Promenade

The first thing I need upon coming to Larnaca is a place where I can have a Free Internet access. I can sit here for as long as I wish. Nobody will make me leave until I finish.
I always come here to write and check my e mails. I have a glass of fresh fruit juice, or a cup of tea.
The staff is really friendly, but most of the young people working in the cafe restaurant in the morning are foreigners.

Favorite Dish: Although I have never tried this restaurant's menu I know from many friends and relatives that it is popular for its steaks.
Next door there is an arcade room and there are also a couple of rides for the little ones to enjoy.
Keep the receipt and next time you go there, show it to get a discount!
It is a very popular meeting spot for all ages!

MILITZIS TAVERN: For a traditional get away by the sea front!

The entrance of the Restaurant

Another favourite Restaurant of mine is the Militzis Restaurant.
I consider it to be the cheapest descent, and most popular place in the area, both for Cypriots like me, but for tourists as well. Excellent Service!
Cypriots usually come after 9pm, but especially on Sundays the place is full to bursting.
Its lovely terrace viewing the sea and the scent coming from the flowers in the garden makes the spot very romantic.

Favorite Dish: Here, I usually have "Tavas" for 10 euros, and I recommend it to you. It is a mixture of beef and lamb cooked very slowly in traditional ovens, which can be seen at the side of the Restaurant.
Meze here costs 13.50 euros.
Here however don't expect to ask for a carafe. They have only bottled wine. The price starts from 9 euros to 25.
A KEO - the Cypriot beer which is excellent in quality costs 3 euros in this Restaurant.
The Restaurant is open for lunch as well.

LYSIA TARVERN: THE CYPRIOT TRADITIONAL CUISINE RESTAURANT
greekcypriot profile photo

5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

greekcypriot 1157 reviews

I have been to this this Traditional Cypriot Restaurant several times. Two brothers (refugees since 1974) from the village of Lysi run the business. They both speak English well and with a smile on their face are ready to recommend the best for you. Try their "ofto kleftiko" which costs about 11 euros. Another alternative is to ask for (Meze) for 16 euros. Cypriot specialities like (koupepia or dolmadakia, keftedes (meatballs) challoumi -the Cypriot cheese) snails, salad, kleftiko, afelia, mushrooms, and souvla (meat on the spit) plus many more dishes are included.
A carafe of Cypriot wine here costs 8.5 euros, and you will surely be served a home-made dessert free of charge before leaving.
If by any chance they forget to serve the dessert, - ask for it! If you even tell them that you have read about it in a restaurant tip they will be even happier.
Ask for - karidaki, or water-melon or kitromilo dessert!

Favorite Dish: My favourite dish is "ofto Kleftiko" but several times I have asked for a "Meze or Pikilia as it is called in Cyprus".
Also it is a restaurant for "Souvla Lovers"!!- Meat on the spit.

Speciality: Lyssiotiki souvla (lamb, chicken, pork, pork in wine) and Kleftiko, served with oven potatoes.
Prices: Lamb souvla – EUR13, Pork souvla – EUR10, Pork in wine souvla – EUR12, Chicken souvla – EUR11, Kleftiko – EUR11

without a doubt the best breakfast i have had in larnaca. Not just a set menu, for a change you can choose what you fancy. The set breakfast is big engough for most but they do a large one as well BLACK PUDDING, FRIED BREAD HASH BROWNS. The lunch menu is varied and filling.
And they open at 7.am not like most places around them. The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable 4-50 Euro for a set breakfast, cant be bad.

Favorite Dish: The big breakfast

restaurant garden

Our first meal in Cyprus was in this restaurant, and I must say it was the best meal we had during our entire trip. The restaurant is cosy, with many tables outside in the garden, under trees with colorful and perfumed flowers. Unpretentios but cosy.

Favorite Dish: The menu is quite limited, and specializes in meats. I ordered a chicken kebab, which was grilled on charcoals to perfection - and it was a huge plate...I think I only managed to eat half of it. My husband had lamb, cooked in psecial ovens that you can see - and he said it was delicious, too.

varoshiotis seafood restaurant: famous for its seafood mezzes but...
call_me_rhia profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

call_me_rhia 4040 reviews

A well-known Larnaca seafood restaurant which turned out to be a big disappointment, like most restaurants in Cyrus, I must add. It's famous for the fish-and-seafood mezzes at a fixed price, but it's impossible to just order some selected mezzes - we found out. Either the full set or something else - and the full set has a lot of fried mezzes, which is not the best way to taste seafood.

Favorite Dish: We ended up having salads... a seafood salad, huge, but most of the seafood tasted bitter (read: maybe not so fresh) and an eel salad, which would have been good if it had contained more than 5 little pieces of eel. Together with a bottle of water, the bill was nearly 40 euros. Definitely overpriced.
