 | Larnaca Transportation | Tips 1 - 10 of 13 | | Travel Express or simply Travel X is an intercity mini bus/taxi which is very convenient and more economical compared to a private hire taxicab. I used this means of transportation almost the whole stay in Cyprus. Being an intercity transport, you may use their services in any of the following routes: Larnaca to Nicosia Nicosia to Paphos Paphos to Limassol Limassol to Nicosia and other areas You may check the schedule and more detailed information on their website I provided below. In the meantime, I am giving you the address and working hours in Larnaca as follows: Corner of Kilkis & Kitiou (Main Office) Tel 24 621100 Mon-Fri 07:30 - 19:00 07:30 - 17:00 Corner of Papakyriakou and Markelou Tel 24 661070 Saturday 05:30 - 19:00 05:30 - 17:00

With Nicosia airport in the Green line area since the Turkish invasion of 1974, there are now only two international airports in Cyprus - Larnaca and the newer Paphos. I always fly to Larnaca. It is not a huge place, although there is currently building work going on, although I'm not sure if they are merely extending the runway or building a new terminal. On arrival, there are a couple of money exchanges in the baggage reclaim area, although I suggest you only change the minimum necessary as the rates are better here. If you are a smoker, there is a small smoking area just beside the exchange places. Immigration formalities are normally fairly quick, especially for EU citizens. If you are making your own way onward, there is only a very limited bus service (recently started) to and from the airport, although there are always numerous taxis at the rank which is just outside the door on the right. Here's a tip for you if you have to wait a while for a bus or a pick-up. Just behind the taxi rank is a small cafe used by the drivers where you can get proper coffee far cheaper than in the terminal. If you are leaving, the departures area is currently undergoing work. It has all the normal duty free section and a decent sized cafe / bar area. You should be aware that the furthest gate is only about a minutes walk from the cafe area, so no need to get to the gate too early. The website attached gives comprehensive details. Leave a Comment

Larnaca Airport is ony 5km from the Larnaca city centre. Many international airlines are starting to fly here. The airport has a small but very extensive selection of duty free items! Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

As the hotel was some distace from Larnaka we had to find a way to travel. The conference had a mini-bus but we preferred to be independent. A bus could be found at the entrance to the hotel every half hour. It cost 70cents each way, and was our preferred way of moving. If we were in town but overcome by the heat, we'd take a taxi for 5 cyp pounds. When a longer excursion was planned we rented a car, but discovered the advertisements in the hotel were not strictly accurate. To rent for two days was 20 Cyp pounds, but on top of that was VAT and insurance, so all in all it was 100 pounds. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Inter City Buses provides service between Larnaca and most major Cypriot cities. You can take the bus from the airport to the seafront in Larnaca. From the sea front service is provided to Nicosia (Lefkosia), Ayia Napa, Protaras, and Limassol. Just know that service is limited on Saturdays and suspended on Sundays. Generally, the buses run every 1-2 hours between Larnaca and Nicosia. The ride took around a hour because we kept picking up and dropping off people. The bus itself was small (the picture is the bus that we had on the way back from Nicosia) and a bit bumpy but for CY £2 a person it was well worth it. I have taken a taxi from Larnaca to Nicosia and it was a big waste of money. Leave a Comment

Travel express is a large shared taxi company that runs services between Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Polis and Paralimni (I think). You can either come to their offices and wait for the next available taxi or call them and they will pick you up anywhere in the city and drop you off anywhere in your destination(Larnaca airport however is not in the city. Do not know about other airports but expect it is the same). Prices are cheap, they speak English and are helpful (I called from abroad to find out when they were open). Expect a 30 min delay while waiting for a taxi/picking up others. They run limited hours - morning to late afternoon, I think. The correct number for Larnaca airport information desk is (0)24 816108 (took me hours to find this !!) They can help with any questions you have about getting to/from the airport etc. There may only be 1 or two people on duty and if a flight has just landed they will be busy, so your call may not be picked up right away. Larnaca airport (departures lounge) is surprisingly nice, in marked contrast to arrivals. There are several reasonably priced cafes, a Sbarro, and a large duty-free. Definitely a thumbs-up. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Just take the bus from the airport to the town, it's less than paying a taxi. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The national carrier of Cyprus is Cyprus Airways. There are also their two charter companies Eurocypria and Helios. Of the three airlines I have actually found that Helios is the most reliable and also offers the best food. The main airport of the island is located in Larnaca and has recently been undergoing some extension work to enable it to cope with the ever increasing number of flights to the island.
