 | Limassol Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 34 | | I have hesitated to add this tip at all. Who wants to share a nice, cozy restaurant along the beach that no one will notice from the outside with a bunch of tourists? It can only ruin the place in the long run. Oh well, I will tell you, but don't tell anyone else, okay? So after my disasterous experience with the Waves restaurant down the street, we tried this very unassuming restaurant about 100 meters east along the sea front road. From outside, it is nothing special, but that belies what is out behind. Essentially you sit under the big, mature trees along the beach. During the day it is shady, and at night you sit under strings of lights hanging from the tree branches. Wild cats & kittens patrol ceaselessly between the tables hoping for a quick snack of fish or a dropped piece of shashlik. But, an unprotected toe will do just as well, so be careful.
On a hot day or after a hot day, I like to order a nice cold beer first. They serve Carlsberg or KEO in 0.63 liter bottles. There are only a few things I would order from the menu. Either the meat meze or the fish meze, but I prefer the meat meze. Or the shashlik barbeque pork or chicken. They serve fish, but there are other fish restaurants in Limassol. I prefer to order a fish, rather than the fish meze. With the fish meze you get a lot of stuff you might not normally order. It is a way for them to lower the cost. In my humble opinion, the barbeque is the best, and I have eaten there dozens of times. It is cooked piping hot and served fresh. I like the chicken and pork better than their lamb. Beforehand you can order a nice mixed, village salad, and maybe some tsaksiki with pita bread as a snack. Washed down with a bottle of dry, crisp, chilled Cypriot white wine and a bottle of water. Ask for the wine on ice so it is the right temperature. Wine gets warm very quickly even at night. The portions are large enough to fill a Nebraskan farmboy, so easy when ordering. They are pretty good about bringing more food if you need it. Everything in Cyprus is served with french fries and the fish and grill at Famagusta is no exception. There are several Indian restaurants in Limassol. Raj's Tandoor, Calcutta, The Jewel of India and, of course, a Taj Mahal. One of them I don't like at all. I prefer Raj's the best, but I have not given one an adequate chance yet, so I will have to reserve opinion or update these pages later. A good Indian might not spring to mind when it is hot outside, but for most of the year it is just what Doctor Bombay ordered for a little spice.
Raj's can make food according to your liking. Either mild, medium, madras, bindaloo or phal. They can also do vegetarian. If you don't ask, it will likely arrive quite mild, but they can make it as hot as you would like or stand. Indian food is always enjoyed better in a group, so you can mix and match a few hot & spicy dishes with some milder dishes. When I am alone I never quite know what to order. Therefore, I usually end up ordering a Tikka Masala, which is not too spicey. However, they do the works from Tandoori, Tikka Masala, Korma, Sag, Jalfreji, Biryani, Rogan Joash and the curry that you would expect. The prices are quite high, and the more dishes you order the quicker the price adds up. A main dish is CYP 5.85 ($13.20), a starter is CYP 2.50-3.00, Alloo Gobhi or Bombay Aloo is about CYP 4.00, steamed rice is CYP 2.00, and a Peshawari Nan bread is CYP 1.50. Beer costs CYP 2.00 as well. So, if you order one of each and two beers the price would be CYP 20, which is $45 per person give or take depending on how much you can share the dishes. Not cheap, but good tasting. You really cannot miss Goodys when you drive along the sea front road in Limassol. It is located near the Holiday Inn. It is bright yellow and situated directly on the beach. It is a favorite amoung families with children due to its playground outback, and with the teens for its fast food and as a place to meet. My only big problem with Goodys is that it is directly on the beach and fast food packaging does not mix well with wind and waves. At the end of a busy day, their beach is always full of litter, and it also finds its way into the water, too. Light, waxed paper cups with straws and plastic lids blow away into the water, and then after water seeps in, they sink to the bottom of the sea. Then when you are swimming you see their garbage on the seabed. It is the responsibility of the patrons to make sure that their garbage does not get away, but due to the wind, garbage is always blowing-off the tables, and people take their take-away food back with them to the beach. Goodys has to make more of an effort to encourage its patrons to clean their table; bring their trash to the garbage bins; clean the eating areas quicker themselves; and as a last resort allocate more staff to clean the beach during the day. And, not just in front of their restaurant, but all along the beach where their products packaging has ended up. If you cannot ban fast food restaurants along the beach, then at least they should have to clean-up after their customers. The first time we tried to go here the usual happened. The restaurant's terrace was completely empty, but every table was reserved. We were told we could sit in the restaurant by ourselves, but not on the sundeck overlooking the water. Stuff that. The terrace is divided by an imaginary line, bar on the leftside of the door, restaurant on the rightside of the door. We asked if we could sit on the leftside and order from the menu? It was shorter to turn left and serve us then go to the far end of the righthand side, but no way, José. No flex for me and my homies, so we left in a huff and found a great restaurant down the street about 100 meters where I have been going back ever since. 'Dey dunn wand my money mann, no pro-blemmo.
The second time I tried to go to Waves, the bar this time, was on a Saturday night. Face control man. Locals only, I am told. The bouncer didn't like my mean mug I guess? I was a bited peeved to say the least. It's not that I care whether I get in, there are other places to go, and I have been thrown out of better clubs, but I hate being refused entry. Bunch of bigots. It was ironical because the sister of a friend of mine works there and she could easily get me in, but I just cannot stand that kind of crap. More ironic, a few weeks later the place burnt down. I swear it wasn't me man. They are now in the process of rebuilding the place, but let's see if it has improved their manners at all? No respect, no smile, no good tips, surly dudes. This is not fast food. This is a laid back café on the beach which serves all kinds of coffees, cappuuccinos, frappuccinos, ice coffees, milkshakes and other beverages, as well as snacks like salads and open face sandwiches. You can sit outside on their terrace overlooking the beach or retreat to their air conditioned interior when the sun is too hot or too bright. There are lots of comfortable sofas and stools to sit on with low tables, or you can sit at one of their table and chairs inside. The decor is post art deco and a combination of woods, leathers, glass and light. It is very inviting and fresh. Their toilets are clean as well.
The prices are quite high, but within reason for Cyprus. A cappuccino or other deluxe coffee for example will cost CYP 2.50 ($5.625). Pricey, but the cost of trendy, and the laid back atmosphere means you can sit back and enjoy it. Cyprus is FULL of restaurants of ALL kinds, they are EVERYWHERE! When you're walking down the street, especially in the coastal & touristic area, there are ONLY restaurants, one next to the other, and nothing else. You can find all kinds of cuisine, from traditional to international of all types. Actually, the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Limassol are restaurants. It's just too much!!! But, they are rather expensive, as everything in Cyprus. That country id horribly expensive! Leave a Comment

The cost is only around £8, which is about $12US, and you will definitely be full by the end of the night. They have strolling bouzouki and guitar players, and most people sing along. This is good for tourist, but you will also find mainy Cypriot families, especially on Saturday nights.
The meze. A traditional meze contains up to 20 (or more even) little dishes - olives, salad, tzatziki, tahini, hummus, chips, souvlaki, pita bread, and of course, you must have some local village wine. I like Aiyos Onofrios in particular, although most any of the local wines are good. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: St. Andrews Street, in the old part of Limassol.

This is owned by a Cypriot-South African family, and the restaurant is decorated in an African safari theme with zebra, cheetah and antelope hides on the walll. In the spring, summer and fall, try to get a table in the outside garden patio with teh giraffes!
My favorite here is the Boerwaars ring, South African sausages served with steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. They also have exotic menu items like ostrich. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: St. Andrews St.

Moussaka and Fish Meze were my favorites. Cyprus cuisine is an apt combination of Greek and Turkish. Keep in mind that dishes are huge, so sometimes one may end up with only eating appetizers :))) Leave a Comment Theme: Other
