The Fontana -Cyprus Hilton: Tempting and Yummy!

Dining at the Fontana with some friends

BUFFET LUNCH/DINNER OPTIONS: There is such a variety of everything that you cannot try it all. Quality is excellent, the service top, and tastes are yummy. If in the meantime you really love to eat, don’t bother get to a restaurant outside the Hilton because with much less you will realize that you are in a paradise of gastronomic bliss -the choice is extensive that you could ever wish for.

A LA CART AT THE FONTANA: With some friends we tried the a la carte menu of the Fontana this time. The salad that impressed me more was the Baked Goat Cheese Salad for €18.00. (Assorted Greens, Dry Figs and Cranberries, Walnuts & baked goat cheese served with balsamic & honey dressing). I can totally live on salads and I can say it was luscious. (The restaurant offers interesting choice of Vegetarian food as well).
My main course was the Fresh Salmon Escalope served with Jumbo Prawns in Lobster sauce for €36.00. The side dish was spinach Timbale, Steamed Carrots, Parsley Potatoes. A dish I highly recommend to everyone who appreciates good food.

My friends had the ‘Garidomakaronada’ - Jumbo Prawns with Tomato & Fresh Basil Sauce served with Tomato Spaghetti for €38.00. The dish was so tempting and I had a bite. It was a marvel -a dish to be considered.

Cypriot wines are of excellent quality and we had the Aes Ampelis Rose (a Shiraz and Maratheftiko grape variety) served at €34.75 (per bottle) €9.00 (per glass).
Another exceptional wine from the indigenous Xynisteri grape is ‘Petritis’ probably the most interesting dry wine that Cyprus has to offer at the moment, the unique wine to accompany seafood. A delightfully tasty wine and one of my favourite. It is served at the price of €28.25, - €7.50 per glass.
For meat dishes highly recommended is the Kyperounda Cabernet Sauvignon. It leaves a sensuously lingering aftertaste and it is of excellent structure and full flavoured. It is served at the price of €44.25 (per bottle) and €12.00 (per glass).

If you are at the Hilton you can accompany the above wine with the Baked Lamb Rack with Mustard Sauce. This dish is served on baked vegetables with herbed potatoes for the price of €33.00. An exceptional dish that meat lovers will adore it.

EXECUTIVE LOUNGE: A complimentary option of snacks, beverage and dessert with breakfast included. All guests of the executive wing have access to this smart lounge which is quite popular. In reality it provides snacks and nibbles. (Of course coffee/tea facilities, bottled water and juices, bars of cereals and fruit are provided the day long). Comfortable and cozy ambience to relax, read a book even work on the computers that are provided there. It serves also like a work/study room.

When I come to the Cyprus Hilton I never bother about dining outside the premises.
On my previous trip I cancelled 2 dinner invitations in Nicosia. Instead I had some friends and a cousin joining me up to the Executive Lounge. There are tables for dining, and guests are able to bring additional persons to this lounge if they wish, whereby they then have the option to be charged 25 euros p.p., which allows their guest(s) unlimited food and beverage or if preferable, to be charged on a consumption basis.
It counts a lot to have your room upgraded if you are to have such benefit. I believe this is a point to be considered.*

The Fontana Restaurant - Cyprus Hilton: Impeccable service,Tasting the Menu is a Challenge

by greekcypriot Written Feb 11, 2013

Dining at the Fontana - An amazing salad!
    4 more images

The Fontana interior is fabulous creating a warm and pleasant ambience. It is a Signature restaurant in Nicosia and it is just as popular with locals as with tourists. Businessmen who stay at the Hilton love it, and this is one of the reasons that it is always packed.
Besides the wide variety of Traditional and International Buffet, it also offers the a la carte menu where guests can choose out of a variety of Signature dishes that suite all tastes.
The talented Executive Chef of the Cuisine Mr. Andrea Georgiou has several awards in his record and there is something for everyone, from the Hilton’s classics to vegetarian dishes, nutrient salads and other health options.

Hilton’s Top Chefs highly recommend a few Custom-made Classics and I had the chance to try a few while there. The US Beef Burger is really great. It can be used as a base for Hilton Cheeseburger using Cheddar if somebody prefers it, or it can be made into a Bacon burger for those who love bacon.

Hilton Caesar Salad is amazing, nutrient and yummy. It can also be used as the base for other Caesar variations with chicken, prawns, blackened tuna or salmon. I had it with prawns an afternoon when I decided to skip lunch.
I tried Hilton’s Club Sandwich –I had it plain with no mayonnaise or ketchup and it was a delicious snack that accompanied my afternoon coffee.

One of the nights that I dined at Fontana, I had the grilled mixed vegetable salad from the buffet, and another one with dry figs. Both were outstanding, colourful and nutrient. Christo, the sommelier who is the Food and Beverage Coordinator suggested that I try the Chardonnay 2010. (med-ful bodied, with rich fruit and balancing acidity). Indeed it was great and it was matching perfectly with the salads and the main course which was Sea Bass from the a la carte menu. The fish was cooked to perfection, and the portion was huge. It was also nicely presented and very tasty.

Another night I had a curry dish with vegetables and different salads. This time I had some fine rose dry wine (Aes Ambelis) to accompany the multi flavoured dish of mine which Christo recommended. The Rose wine matches well with salads, meat, fish and seafood.

Now, if I had to give one word for dessert….I would simply call it “heavenly”!!

I found the restaurant superb in every aspect although a bit pricy, but I highly recommend it. It opens daily from 6.30 am to 11:00 pm.

Dinner at the stunning (seasonal) Pergola Grill and Bar Restaurant, -the latest addition to the Hilton by the pool the last night of functioning was a challenge.

The Executive chef Adreas Georgiou with the rest of chefs and cooks seem to work miracles in the kitchen. The presentation of every dish brought was like a piece of art.

The exceptional culinary standards, the taste and ambience set the scene for stylish dining in soft pleasing to the ears music. Andreas Yiallourides is another asset for the Hilton who is the supervisor of the restaurant.

Stavros o Salonikios: Best Gyros in Cyprus

by allouc Updated Jun 27, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It's a small shop selling pork gyros. That is grilled pork on a vertical stick that revolves next to a heating element. It is served in a pitta bread with a variety of trimmings.

Favorite Dish: Gyros is the only thing they serve and they know how to make it...Five euro will get you a pitta and a bit more a local KEO beer.

Zanettos Cyprus Tavern: Best Meze Restaurant in Nicosia

by allouc Written May 2, 2012
    Zanettos Rooster

Zanettos is a small tavern with a lot of history. It has been at the same place since 1938 and have been fortunate to eat there a few times.
You don't get to order food but just drinks. Food is traditional Cyprus meze and truly the quality of the food is always consistent and well prepared.

Favorite Dish: Grilled meats are absolutely my favorite but make sure you don't get stuffed with dishes served early as they come near the end of the meal.

Taste of India: Best Indian place in Nicosia

by allouc Updated Mar 7, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This in my opinion is the moste tastefuly decorated restaurant in Nicosia. The food is excellent and the service one of the best around. I have yet to have a dish there that I didn't like. The food is rightly spiced for non Indian's tastes too.
They also have a branch in Ayia Napa with the food there being equaly good.

Favorite Dish: Excellent tandoori dishes with naan being best this side of Bombay. Shrimp puri is also very well done. Kulfi is the best you can get in Cyprus but is a rather small portion.

"Sedirhan Cafe-Rest" in Grand Inn: Local Food

by Arkeolog Written Mar 20, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Sedirhan Cafe

As you continue your tour of the Grand Inn, be sure to stop in at the charming café in the courtyard before continuing your tour of the upper floors of Grand Inn. A cup of Turkish coffee is the perfect companion on this colourful and enjoyable journey through the world of Cypriot handicrafts, especially in such a distinctive historical environment as this. As you sip your coffee and sample the Cyprus cuisine, take a moment to observe the people wandering throughout the historic porticoes of the building, the wide variety of hand-made crafts and the charming fountain. They all seem to challenge the ravages of time in perfect harmony.

Favorite Dish: Stuffed Artichoke, sarma (stuffed wine leaves), delicious yoghurt, Cypriot ravioli, desserts

to steki tis loxandras: good but not memorable food

    to steki tis loxandras

We went for dinner in this restaurant and we chose it because it was full of locals, which we thought it was a good sign. The restaurant is simple and nice, with old wooden tables and chairs in the middle of a pedestrian street in soth nicosia.

Favorite Dish: The food was not as good as we had expected it. We ordered mixed mezze as a starter - and it was really not good... everything thrown together on a tiny place with sauces/dips spreading all over. The kebab we had after the mezze was good, though - we even managed to have it without the ever-present (and much hated) greasy french fries.

    bonsai: great sushi

    by call_me_rhia Updated Feb 2, 2008

    sushi

If you are a sushi lover, then you should head to the Holiday Inn in southern Nicosia. There are two distinct places, the Peninsula sushi and the Bonsai Sushi, one next to the other.

The Peninsula Sushi is perfect if you ar in a hurry - it's a sort of fast-food sushi bar where sushi comes to you on a conveyer belt, and you choose and pick what you want. The Bonsai sushi is a sushi restaurant, with comfortable tables and a menu to choose sushi from; it's slightly more expensive, but more pleasant, too.

Favorite Dish: There are about 160 different choices and combinations of Sushi Nigiri, Sashimi, Temaki, Gunkan, Makimoto, Futomaki and Inside Out Rolls. We had a mixed sashimi plate, which was fresh and tasty, and some sushi with salmon roe.

  • Rocket Diner: WOW!

by GeorgeGee Updated May 13, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I wasn't expecting to find this type of restaurant in Nicosia, it all happened by mistake as my wife and I overslept & missed breakfast at our Hotel ( 2 mins walking distance from Classic Hotel & Holiday Inn, btw). We were recommended to try the breakfast at Rocket Diner. In one way I was glad we missed the Hotel Breakfast!! I had an excellent full american breakfast which included fillet steak, bacon, sausage, hash browns, o. rings etc. for £6.50, my wife had an omelette for £3 plus free coffee refills. Service was friendly and the decor was very retro. Booths, jukeboxes and open kitchen add to the 50's feel.
We also tried it the next day for Dinner, looks completely different in the evening, Half pound burgers are the norm, I was tempted as i noticed the table next to us were having them but i opted for the mushroom steak which was cooked just as i ordered ( a task i find is eluding more & more restaurants) plus good vegetarian options for the wife. All in all a good experience, I'll deffinitely be back.

Favorite Dish: American Breakfast even after mid day........

This is definitely the best Indian restaurant in town. The actual restaurant itself is a little bit upper class but the food is delicious. It is set in a residencial area and not the easiest place to find. They also do take away and delivery service.

Sedirhan Cafe: Eating in the beauty of the Han

by Loubna Written Nov 3, 2005

This place is located on the Turkish side of Nicosia inside the Han. Nestled in one of the corners of the courtyard is the Sedirhan Cafe. The opening times are a bit of a mystery and just recently realised that it is open during the day on saturday. The first time I have eaten here was during the night and a band was playing. The magical surroundings of the Han, coupled with the oil lamps on the tales, made this experience even more enjoyable. I had a sort of a chicken stew which was absolutely delicious :o)
I would highly recommend lunch or dinner here!
