Taste of India: The best Indian food in town

by Loubna Written Nov 30, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is definitely the best Indian restaurant in town. The actual restaurant itself is a little bit upper class but the food is delicious. It is set in a residencial area and not the easiest place to find. They also do take away and delivery service.
Reservation strongely suggested especially during the weekend

Sedirhan Cafe: Eating in the beauty of the Han

by Loubna Written Nov 3, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place is located on the Turkish side of Nicosia inside the Han. Nestled in one of the corners of the courtyard is the Sedirhan Cafe. The opening times are a bit of a mystery and just recently realised that it is open during the day on saturday. The first time I have eaten here was during the night and a band was playing. The magical surroundings of the Han, coupled with the oil lamps on the tales, made this experience even more enjoyable. I had a sort of a chicken stew which was absolutely delicious :o)
I would highly recommend lunch or dinner here!

    Abu Faycal: The Lebanese Experience

by Loubna Written Nov 3, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Abu Faycal, like many other places, is an old converted house set in the back streets of the centre of Nicosia. The best time of year to visit is during the summer when the garden is open. You will find your traditional Lebanese mezze in a very nice setting. Ghazi, the owner, is very welcoming and obliging. He is a bit of an institution is Nicosia as he has been established for over a decade. He can cater for you to take away food if you have a special occasion and started to deliver lunches as well.
He has tried many times to get me to organise a Moroccan food night but even if I love cooking for my friends, in a restaurant it is a different story. So far I have declined but you never know I might change my mind...
This is one of my favorite places and until recently it was an even more special place....

Sedirhan Cafe: Manti - Turkish Ravioli

by Profsmiley Updated Feb 13, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located in the historic Büyük Han (Great Khan), Sedirhan Cafe offers its customers a small but fine selection of Turkish and Turkish Cypriot cuisine.

The menu includes manti (ravioli), hellim and kiyma borek (thinly wrapped dough filled with cheese/minced beef), bulgur koftesi (wheat rolls), katmer (sweets made out of fried though), firin kebabi (kleftico), and molohiya (traditional vegetable dish).

If you don't fancy anything to eat, then you can still enjoy a good selection of (non)alcoholic drinks. Red and white house wine are available. Traditional yoghurt drink Ayran and home-made lemonade are also usually available.

The cafe operates until 5pm during week days, and until 1pm on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is live music starting around 9pm and the cafe is open until 1am.

Favorite Dish: Manti, which is freshly made, is what I consider the speciality of Sedirhan.

The Boghjalian: If it's an oriental atmosphere you're looking for.

by Profsmiley Updated Feb 13, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Boghjalian, named after an Armenian who built the house in the 19th century, is a great spot for those of you who crave delicious food (meze and mixed kebap), and a cozy atmosphere. The house itself is beautiful with its high ceilings and authentic decoration. The restaurant is specially good for big gatherings. Sometimes there would be a musician playing Turkish classics. There is also a nice cozy 'Orient' room (Sark odasi), where you can enjoy your Turkish coffee, desert and nargile.

Favorite Dish: Mezes... And their salad! Meat always taste good, too!

El Sabor Latino: If you miss Italian-Spanish cuisine

by Profsmiley Updated Feb 13, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well, I like this place because of its great food and atmosphere. Located just next to the Selimiye Mosque, you can enjoy your dinner with lights reflecting from this great structure.

The chef (and also one of the owners) is Portuguese and the menu he prepared consists mostly of Italian dishes, and some classic Spanish ones - like paella and a variety of tapas...

Mostly on Wednesdays and Fridays nights, the place has tasty live music.

The only problem I encountered in the past was non-professional attitude of waiting staff. But they are trying to improve that, and food will make you forget about it!!

Favorite Dish: The tapas - the calamari one and the octopus are my favourites.
Main dishes - Chicken with herbs, Fettucine with chicken, Calamari salad...

If you are craving for some döner (gyros), this is the place to go! It's not a fancy restaurant, but a cozy one where you would just go and enjoy your food.

Favorite Dish: Iskender (Döner with yoghurt and pitta bread) is almost everyone's favorite - and why this place is better known for!

In Limassol, "Agostino" is a very very good restaurant for food, but not fancy or trendy at all.
Go there if you want to eat good Cypriot food at an unexpensive price.
And the use of internet is free for their custumer!!! Thanks!!!

    Taverna Eirinias

by cheekymarieh Updated Jan 1, 2003

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is one of the top tavernas in Nicosia and is frequented by Greek and Cypriot film stars and celebrities.

Favorite Dish: There is only one item on the menu and that is the meze. Of the numerous dishes on offer (around 25) there will be plenty for you to choose from. On my latest visit one of the dishes offered was snails!

The views across to the Turkish part of the city

Favorite Dish: The view! Although if you want to sit and enjoy the view it is advisable to purchase something. Usually they have a selection of teas (a rarity on the island) and they have some delicious cakes.

Favorite Dish: ÌåæÝäåò. If you go to a traditional cypriot taverna or restaurant and you ask mezedes they´ll start bringing to you everything that restaurant has. So you´re eating untill you drop dead from the food. You must also taste ZIVANIA (æéâáíßá), a strong cypriot drink.
