pack light, carry plastic
Luggage and bags: Last weekend in Nicosia I was very cold after being outside all day and after it rained. It is very deceptive, the temperature can be quite warm in the winter, say 5-20 degrees Celsius depending on when and where or whether or not you're in the sunshine. But, it can drop 5-10 degrees very quickly too. I just did not have enough layers with me on this trip, mostly as I was not really planning to be out and about, but my plans changed.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: For Fall, Winter and Spring here is what I would bring to dress in layers, which is very sensible.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: 1-pair nylon, zippered hiking trousers which double as shorts
1-pair of walking shorts preferably with zippered or velcro pockets
1-pair of casual trousers, cotton or cotton-blend for restaurants and other places where you don't to go casual
If you're a woman you may like a skirt, I have seen them made from same khaki material as the hiking trousers and they can be very tastefully cut.
Ditto for hiking shorts that look like a skirt.
One nylon or cotton-nylon, louvered hiking shirt with long sleeves, that roll-up
A cotton t-shirt, you can buy more as you go along if you like to wear and as souvenirs
A cotton sweat-shirt
A fleece vest and/or a fleece with long-sleeves that unzipper
A goretex rain-jacket with hood, which with cap or hat is better than an umbrella when it's windy
A baseball cap or other type of cap against the sun and rain
One pair of sturdy hiking shoes or comfortable walking shoes depending on what you're going to do
Photo Equipment: A second pair of shoes in case you develop hot-spots or to go with your smart-casual clothes
1-pair real hiking socks made of wool, nylon & lycra blends
1-2 pairs lighter socks for everyday
2-3 pairs underwear
A day-pack or knapsack for carrying extra clothes in or to put them in when you layer-down
Flip-flops or thongs
Compeeds for blisters, but you can buy them in Cyprus too
Immodium, also available in Cyprus
Personal medication and prescription from your doctor if you need refills
Quick-suds or laundry detergent that washes-out quickly in the sink, so you can hang them to dry overnight
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: One other thing I really find handy is a sleeveless vest made out of windproof nylon. It is very light, takes up no room, but often cuts the wind, when you don't need your goretex jacket on.
That's all you really need, but then depending on how much room you have you can add more shirts or more changes of clothes. Bring along your credit card just in case. As mentioned, you can always buy these things as you go for souvenirs.
Miscellaneous: In the summertime, it is obviously much warmer and you will be wearing more t-shirts and shorts.Related to:
