don't leave home without it by MrBill The intensity of the sun in Cyprus is no joke. The island lies at approximately 33 degrees and the ultraviolet rays reflect easily off the sand and the water magnifying their power to burn your skin in a very short period of time. I even got what amounted to a bit of a sunburn in late February from being out unprotected from the sun. What factor you wear is a personal choice, depending on your skin type and how easily you burn. I never go out to the beach or for a walk in the summer with less than a European 6 UV factor on (UV standards vary between Europe and N. America). However, when I am out for any length of time I will use up to a 25-30 UV factor, especially on my face or any exposed areas that are starting to turn pinkish. I reapply after being in the water and towelling off even though most quality suntan lotions are supposedly waterproof. I find they wear off in the salt and/or chlorine water.
Under no circumstances would I reccommend using tan enhancers or other products like tanning oils with a UV factor of 2 or less. You may as well be applying water to your skin for all the use they will be in protecting you. A good pair of polarised sunglasses are always a good idea to protect your eyes from the harmful radiation. I also usually have a baseball cap just in case my face is getting too much sun or it is too bright to read, for example. If I start to get red on my shoulders or back I will immediately put a t-shirt on or head for the shade. There is lots of sun in Cyprus. You don't have to worry about going home without a tan. So, you should try to avoid getting burnt during your first few days on the beach. You don't want to be running around looking like a rock lobster or getting a sunstroke now do you? Leave a Comment

A haversack or a rucksack or light travelling bag for walking around in Cyprus
As Cyprus is very hot during the summer months, light clothing is necessary such as several pairs of t-shirts and shorts.
Some fever tablets in case you fall sick and some multi vitamin tablets especially Vitamin C. Don't forget to bring along your medicines if you are on medication.
A digital camera and/or video camera complete with accessories.
Don't forget to bring along your swim suits if you decide to swim at the Mediterranean Sea. Sunshades and hats are necessary to protect your eyes against the strong sunlight especially during the summer months..

View from Paphos Fort by rachel_sun I used my suitcase which had a 20kg weight allowance and also took a small back pack which I put my camera and bottled water and sunlotion in when I went out.
Try to pack very light weight clothes such as cotton and loose fitting things that will keep you cool.I took only a few items and washed them through out my trip.Bring a good pair of walking boots if you plan to go hiking in the Troodos mountains. If you visit in winter bring a good warm coat.
I took plenty of sun creams and mozzie sprays and my mum took her special medication for bites.I always take asprin along too.
I used my digital camera and made sure I had my battery charger and spare batteries and a spare memory card.
Water sports gear is not really worth bringing as it is easily bought and rented in Cyprus.
Brand name drinks such as Malibu and Bacardi Rum is very expensive in Cyprus.Either drink the local stuff or buy your Brand drink at the airport.Malibu was £20 in Cyprus and £10 at the airport. Leave a Comment

Something extra large if you are like me!
Any footwear that you bring with you will get very dusty. High, thin heels are hazardous in a country where some of the pavements can be poor. My friend Pete will vouch for the fact that on a 5 day visit I arrived with 6 pairs of shoes. He looked in horror when he saw them all! I took even more when I was working over there.
Bring lots of high factor sun cream with you. You will need it in summer. Also bring lots of after sun. Don't forget your makeup (especially the concealer) as it can be quite costly in the resort areas and it is also difficult to find some of the more well known brands that I am used to in the UK. (In an emergency head to Woolworths in Nicossia). Other toiletries on the other hand are a comparable or lower price than in the UK.
Films and develoment costs are higher than in the UK. If you want reprints though they work out quite cheap.
Make sure you have a beach towel with you if you head for the beach. On the sunbeds you will need them ... otherwise you will stick to the blue plastic mattresses that they place on them.
Mosquito repellent is a must. If you find yourself without any though - cover yourself in lemon juice instead. My friend Pete tries to convince me that the kitchen sink isn't needed on trips to Cyprus... but he has been known to lift my suticase into the car boot. Leave a Comment

shorts and preferably water sport utility clothes. For women one bottom is only required, kind of Mykonos Beach is what Pissuri bay beach is resembling
Digital camera is a must..........along with charger 240V or 230 V. Bring NIVEA aftersun milk as well. You will propably need it. Drinks and tobacco is cheaper here than in Europe. Spirit is high and found everywhere. You will make it high if you smile to people. That is all they need. Hoolegans should stay home. Police is not polite with hooligans. (That is how it should allways be, Bravo to their good men.) Try to relax and switch off your phone when lying in the sun. Bring your GSM only for emergency outgoing call. Have it switched off and enjoy the place, in peace and relaxing mood., athough there is strong GSM coverage signal in this bay do not switch it ON. YOURS HOLIDAYS WILL BE FULL OF STRESS....... If you need some fan with water ASK Valentinos in the nearby water sports , at YIANNOS & DIA club, to take you for ride. he is both professional and extremely friendly. you can see him in this photo... Cyprus is sunny all along though it gets a little chilly in the winter. It snows up in the mountain.
Bring light clothings especially during the summer! It gets really hot! However, if you intend to visit the mountains do bring along a jumper, it gets chilly at night! Leave a Comment
