The boat trips leaving from the nearby town Latchi are really enjoyable. The boat trips generally last a day travelling along the north coast of the Akamas Peninsula. At lunchtime the boat is moored in a turquoise cove where you are free to snorkel or relax on the boat and enjoy the excellent BBQ lunch cooked fresh. The scenery in this area is breathtaking as it is a national park and there are no big developments spoiling the view.

Keep an eye open for the a variety of wildlife you are likely to wander past - for example we bumped into the fella in the picture taking about five minutes to cross a quiet road.
Around Polis we've also seen black python and grey hammer head vipers, large fruit bats (about fifty tend to eat off plants near the cafe as you leave polis towards the camp site), turtles -saw one in Laatchi harbour, and a variety of unusual birds.

A visit to the quiet beach at Latchi, west of the town of Polis. We were there in January - February 2004. The water was rather cold, but there was plenty of time to just sit on the beach and enjoy the view.

This beautiful monastery although not the most ornate, is my favourite in the Troodos mountains. It is found in a shady bend of the mountain road and it has wonderful peaceful views over cultivated valleys.

At the top of a mountain in the north west of Troodos mountains, stands the richest and most splendid monastery in Cyprus, Kykkos Monastery. Kykkos was founded in the 11th century.

The sheer peacefulness and beauty walking around this lovely monastery with its laden fruit trees and heady aromas from the honeysuckles was indeed wonderful. I didn't want to leave it.

The Polis area is a great place to chill out. Loads of nice restaurants, touristy but not too noisy (certainly not an Ayia Napa). Great places to walk or take a mountain bike around. Not a great beech...
