the best laid plans of mice & men

by MrBill

Built to last? Ha, some of these buildings are less than 1600 years old and they are literally falling apart. Ruins? I'll say they are. Seriously, if looking at old stone foundations is your kind of thing, you can certainly get some done in Pafos. They date back from the 3rd & 4th century A.D. First came the Greeks, then the Romans, and then the Christians. Although, it was good old Mother Nature and her side-kick Earthquake that eventually reduced these splendid period pieces to rubble. However, the mosaics of Pafos are worth a look. For those of you who struggle to draw a picture you may like to reflect on the intricate murals made of small stones and brazed clay tiles which are not only lifelike in every detail, but also depict Greek mythology. Then you can marvel that they were created by artisans some 1600 years ago. Admission costs just CYP1.50 per adult. Wear a hat as the area is...

Troodos, Baths, Market, WaterPark, Coral Bay

by Muzzy&Funtik

So, having rent the car for 2 days, we did almost all possible sightseeing starting from Aphrodite Birthplace Rock (nothin really special apart from russian "graphiti" on the rocks). It was a bit of a challenge to find the way up to Troodos mountains and the cyprus roads are horrible i must say! - lack of road signs makes it very easy to make the wrong turn. Which we did several times. Troodos mountains are real beauty - local Swiss Alps with chalet cottages and hotels. If your aim is Kykkos monastery, dont forget to take appropriate clothes (shorts not allowed). There is also a secret hellicopter field for monks (see photo). On the way back despite we had 3 maps that we carefully checked every 5 minutes, the road brought us to Limassol instead of Paphos. How could this happen?! I still cant figure it out...What we both liked most of all were Aphrodites Baths (turn to the mountains on the...

All Aboard the Funbus!

by Robbie-jim

A visit to the Coral Bay/Paphos area wouldn't be complete without a trip on the "Original Yellow FUNBUS Expedition" in the company of your hilarious driver/host/guide the irrepressable Garry Dundee. He's a very funny , charismatic guy and certainly provides a day to remember in his reconditioned 1950's bedford bus. As well as visiting some interesting and scenic locations in Paphos's surrounding hills (the reptile sanctuary, Adonis waterfall/baths, a reconstruction of a prehistoric village among other places) he also has you in stitches with stories and comedy routines. I can't give the game away too much except to say you'll have a real good laugh! It costs around £30cyp each and this includes a delicious lunch with as much wine/soft drinks as you want at a traditional mountain tavern in a beautiful, panoramic location. To book in Coral Bay, go to Sea Caves Travel and Tours at the top just...
