    Polis Things to Do

I thought I had to create this tip to show what the coast is like in September after much rainfall and wind, but also when the coast gets calm and is so tempting for swimming. The people in the 1st picture might not swim but they can at least sunbathe. Can you spot them? The funny thing is that umbrellas are down when the sea is calm but nobody...

    Polis Restaurants

I was thrilled and happy and I could hardly believe that vegetarian food could be that flavorsome and tasty. The recipes are mouthwatering that even if you are not a vegetarian there is no way to turn anything down. I would not even imagine leaving the premises and get to an outside tavern to order something else. The Soma has a special kitchen for...

    Lachi Restaurants

The restaurant was situated on the Lachi harbour like the other tavernas in the area. Did not have anything unique about it nor was the food excellent. Yet it was overpriced!!!We ordered calamari and they brought us two plates with calamari and a small plate of chips, we had to ask for another one plate. Also no salad or veg on the side yet they...

  • A major historical site.

    Kouklia Things to Do

If you take the time to travel from the centre of Paphos a mere 9 miles West, you will come upon a wonderful archaeological site, as yet not fully excavated, called Paleopafos. The name, literally translated, means, Old Paphos, and it is hugely important, having been already designated a UNESCO heritage site. The evidence suggests that there was a...

  • A great little kafenion.

    Kouklia Things to Do

You may stumble upon Kouklia by accident, or, more likely, you will be here to visit the Paleopafos UNESCO heritage site (see seperate tip). Either way, tired and thirsty after a days travelling or archaeology, you may find yourself in need of a little refreshment. This is the place to go.I have made mention in other tips about Cyprus and Greece of...

  • Panagia Odigitria Church

    Kouklia Things to Do

If you have visited the Paleopafos UNESCO heritage site, you may well just jump into your car and head back into Paphos town. I would urge you to stop for just a little while to visit this gem of a church - the church of Panagia Odigitria. Panagia in Greek is the name for the Virgin Mary, by the way. It is generally reckoned that the church was...

    Tala Warnings and Dangers

Tala is a lovely little place to watch the sun go down and has around 8-10 retaurants most of which are predictably around the village square, however revellers are so far in the hills that they have to rely on their own transport after a sherbet or two!!! Near misses are a frequent occurrence -be warned

Fantastic little restaurant serving delicious local specialities-meze,chicken,stifado. the food is always fresh and the service superb from the family run business. Try the Cypriot night once a week and the sunsets are stunning from this lovely location. Meze- not as sumptious as some places but fresh and the right price.

  • Feed the cats.........

    Tala Things to Do

Visit the monastery of Ayios Neophytos and feed the rather lovely cats which abound in the car park. They are particularly friendly (one decided to plonk itself on my lap and purr like a traction engine for 10 minutes or so), very clean and very healthy-looking. You can buy cat-food from the monastery cafe, so I suspect they do quite nicely. When I...

Tombs of the Kings Things to Do

We found it alot better to start exploring the tombs on the edge first,as all the tourists start at the begining and the chambers there were really busy. That way by the time you walk back there's hardly anyone there. If your anything like me i can't stand crowded places.Lol.
