This place is legendary and mentioned in most guide books. The fact that it is in most guide books would suggest that it is deserving of such mention, and so it is. The place does only one dish and therefore has no menu. The dish in question is mezze. Mezze is a typical dish of Greek influenced cultures and consists of a variety of small portions of different foods served all together or coming along at intervals. The Cypriot mezze is regarded as something quite special and consists of more dishes than you usually get in Greece. At Seven Saint Georges this is taken to the extreme and the dishes keep on coming until you say "no more". All that George (yes, of course the owner's called George) asks is that you do not waste food. We ate there twice and on our first visit managed 26 dishes, on the second only 24. Each dish was delicious, we wasted not one crumb of food, the service was brisk (but not too brisk, you can't rush a meal like this - we took 2 hours) and friendly and the host genial. The food is all home grown and organic, and so is the wine. Booking is not essential but if you don't book you may be disappointed. Quite a few were turned away while we were there because the place was full.
Here's the full list combined from our two visits. Some things might sound a bit plain - e.g "Peas", but none of the food could ever be described as plain. Peas is not just peas, it is peas perfectly cooked with just the right amount of herbs, seasoning, oil and whetever else they need to produce a unique and tasty little dish. Home baked bread Greek salad Tahini dip Felafel Kohlrabi Tzatziki (but with coriander rather than mint) Beetroot Potatoes Caulflower dip Carrot dip Avocado dip Eggs with courgettes Ravioli stuffed with potato Silver beet greens (don't ask me) Brasied broccoli Fava Green lentils Peas Artichoke Chillies Haricot beans Cheese Tarot root Roasted mushrooms Couscous Grilled aubergine Tomato fritters Rice with aubergines Eggs with silverbeet greens Broccoli quiche Spinach Green beans Leeks Carrots Olives Rice pudding Banana pudding Apple crumble Sticky toffee banana pudding Red & White wine The price for the mezze is £9 per head, wine £6 per caraf and deserts £5 for two (all prices Cypriot pounds). Take the road parallel to the B6 on the opposite side of the church & head towards Paphos. At the end of the road, turn left - it's about 100m down the bank.Website: http://www.7stgeorgestavern.com/

Fanous is a Lebanese restaurant set in the heart of Nicosia's restored old town quarter "Laiki Yitonia". This whole area, whilst quite picuresque, is a bit of a tourist trap and The Rough Guide finds little to recommend in it, and especially not restaurants. I can only imagine that this place didn't exist when The Rough Guide's compiler visited or else he doesn't know good food when he tastes it. Put simply, this was close to being the best meal we'd ever had. We went for a mezze-style approach and selected about 8 dishes from the extensive menu. None of the dishes was small enough to be truly a mezze dish, but there was so much on that menu that we wanted to taste that we just couldn't help ourselves. The dishes were similar to some that we'd had before in Greek & Armenian restaurants but every one of them had a style and flavour that was different to the way that we'd had them previously. Most noticeably the felafel and the tabbouleh, two quite common, staple dishes, prepared in a way that put them streets ahead of what we'd had before. Our only regret was that we couldn't come back a second time.
We had: Lebanese flatbread Hummous with snoubar (olive oil & pine nuts) Fatoush (Lebanese salad with fried bread) Mohamar (crushed nuts cooked in tomato sauce with chillies) - fantastic Full Medames (brown beans in a spiced garlic sauce) - fantastic Batata Harrar (fried potatoes with spices and fresh coriander) Felafel - fantastic Tabouleh - fantastic Price was about £12.50 (Cypriot) for the food. Considering the quantity and quality that was a real bargain. this and many others by MrBill So finding a fish restaurant in Cyprus is about as easy as hitting water when you fall out of a boat. The question is which fish restaurant? There I follow the locals. Cypriots usually go out on Sunday afternoon for big family meals, which last up to 3-4 hours. Where do they go? Many of them drive to the town of Zygi, which is located halfway between Limassol and Larnaca on the Old Coast Highway. It takes about 25-30 minutes to drive there from either Limassol or Larnaca, maybe 30-35 minutes from Nicosia.
Is it worth the drive? Well, there is one fish restaurant after another and on Sundays they are all full. Surely the Cypriots go there themselves for a reason? I found the food very good and reasonably priced. I have also had good fish in Limassol and Nicosia, too. However, it is a chance to get out of the major centers and see something new and you can build your itinerary around something different. I don't recommend one over another. They all seem to be well frequented and I have eaten in several. If you plan to go on Sunday make a reservation. Any other time it should be okay just to show up. The Captain's Table is the nicest fish restaurant in Zygi and the most expensive. It is located at the east end of town near the old pier. Zygi only has one main street parallel to the sea. So good we went back - even though it was almost an hour away down the motorway. A fine, relaxed outdoor setting beneath the walls of Limassol castle and with plenty more seating inside. The food is Italian themed with a bit of local flavour and is absolutely superb. No surprise that it was the only one of the Carob Warehouse's several cafes that seemed to be full (that's what drew us to it, it's usually a good sign). No surprise too that we saw some dignatory leaving there in his armoured limo, the Italian flag flying from the bonnet.
On our first visit we had beetroot stuffed ravioli in a gorgonzola and rocket sauce and pear, blue cheese & rocket salad. On our second visit we plumped for a salad of roasted vegetables topped with deep-fried brie, penne with 5 kinds of mushrooms and shared a crepe topped with carob syrup and "village sweets" (see the Local Customs section). On both occasions we had one of their wonderful coffee creations, such as caramel latte. Prices were very reasonable for what you got, about £15 (Cypriot) the first time, £18 the second, including drinks.

La Piazza, Paphos by steventilly La Piazza in Kato Paphos oozes class and quality. It's the kind of restaurant where they hold your chair for you to sit down and drape the napkin over your lap. The Maitre D' explains the wine list (if you require) and fillets and serves the fresh fish & lobster dishes for you at your table with an elaborate but efficient flourish. Your wine & water glass is constantly kept topped up, finished-with items removed and new ones brought (wife dropped her knife, a new one arrived in seconds without needing to ask). This doesn't mean that the service is intrusive, it's simply immaculate. So too is the food. High-class Italian-themed with a plethora of vegetarian options amongst the pasta and rice dishes. Given the quality of the food, service and surroundings the price is very reasonable too. Our meals came to £30 (Cypriot) for two, starters, mains, shared salad and wine. The second time we pushed the boat out and had a glass of champagne each, adding £10 to the bill. The only odd thing about this place was what we dubbed "the comedy pepper grinder". Instead of something nice and elegant requiring a twist or two of the wrist from the friendly and efficient staff, instead they have an electronic grinder that grinds the pepper with a lot of noise and a bizarre light that illuminates your plate where the pepper falls! Most strange indeed.
Ravioli of wild mushrooms in gorgonzola sauce Penn a la Norma (various grilled vegetables) Tomato, rocket & cucumber salad with Feta (basically Greek salad) (the tomatoes were the juiciest, sweetest tomatoes ever). Tortino de crespo (pancake stuffed with aubergine & cheese) Spaghetti with a pesto & tomato sauce Insalata caprese Theme: ItalianPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Akminis 11-12, Kato PaphosDirections: Not far up off the seafront close to McDonalds.

Restaurant Eztiatopio by hopang Restaurant Eztiatopio is one of the largest buffet restaurants, if not the largest, at Troodos Mountains. You can see the size of the restaurant as depicted in our photograph on the right. It serves mainly Greek buffet cuisines buffet style. The food is reasonably good, it has to be said. Certainly it is one of the best restaurants at Troodos Mountains although we knew that there are not many restaurants at Troodos Mountains. The restaurant caters mostly to group package travellers. When we were having lunch at the restaurant, almost all the diners came from several group tour buses.

Village coffee/snack bars by tagalonggal You'll find coffee/snack bars in every small village. They're clean with friendly staff and simple but tasty food. Take the time to sit and enjoy the village ambience. If you're lucky, it won't be when a tour bus is in the village!
Meze is a collection of appetizers and savories. It can consist of smoked ham, fish, chicken, shrimps, houmous (ground chick peas, with olive oil and garlic), various cheeses such as feta, halloumi, tomatoes, olives, celery, sliced artichokes, cucumbers, green peppers, and stuffed vine leaves. Jenny's Restaurant by tagalonggal Jenny's Restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch is in the Laiki Geitonia area. My husband raved about his Moussaka. For those unfamilar with Moussaka, it is a traditional dish consisting of minced lamb or beef, covered with layers of sliced potatoes, eggplant and zucchini. I had a favourite of mine, Cyprus raviolis (a pasta dish). A dish recommended by the owner was Souflakia or Kebab, bits of lamb or pork skewered and roasted on a charcoal fire and eaten in a “pitta”, a flat, unleavened bread. Kadeifi and baklava are rich oriental honey cakes, delicious.
Commandaria, is famous as the rich sweet dessert wine of the Crusaders. It is said to be the oldest wine known in the world. Ouzo is another traditional drink, taken watered, when it looks like milk.
