Maria's Restaurant in Vavatsinia: “Traditional Cypriot Cuisine and Good Service!”

by greekcypriot

We had lunch at “Maria’s Restaurant in Vavatsinia in February, and I was surprised with the huge portions. None of us could eat the whole dish and we asked Maria to pack the rest for home.Wonderful surroundings out in the nature with lush vegetation and singing of birds all over. If it would have been summer it would be a paradise! The restaurant serves Traditional Cypriot cuisine and I have only good words to say for the service and the quality of what we had been served.I can strongly recommend it, although I know that this spot out here near Vavatsinia is already very popular to Cypriots and not only.

Tavern and Bar Agros Village: Rude Manners!

by greekcypriot

I was brought to this Tavern and Bar Restaurant in the village of Agros by a friend of mine. We came here from a nearby village since all the other taverns were closed. The interior décor of the café-restaurant is nice and cozy, a pleasant atmosphere with a big selection of wines on one of the walls just behind where we were sitting. The TV set was a bit loud but we asked the man and turned the volume down. We did not want to eat much that evening, and we ordered a portion of grilled mushrooms for me, one portion of lamp chops for my friend, a green salad, and a bottle of red wine.Everything fine up to the moment when the food is brought to us. I understood that it could not be such a huge portion for one person and I asked my friend how many portions of lamp chops had I ordered. He answered ….just one, so we ask the owner to tell us if the dish was for two or one person. He sounded so...

Mesa Yitonia Tavern, Limassol: Ask for an itemized receipt here!

by greekcypriot

I had dinner out with a friend of mine at this Tavern in February. It is a stone-built structure, with a traditional look, very cozy inside,Traditional on the outside. I have always wanted to dine here because it is opposite some friends’ house. This was a chance to see if it is what it shows on the outside!!The service was excellent, and the staff seemed experienced. We ordered a portion of steak and souvlaki, (kabab) a mixed salad and a bottle of red wine. The food was tasty I can admit, (portions small) and we paid for all these around 38 euros. Everything would have been fine until we got the receipt. I was very disappointed because the shop does not give an analysis of what you have. This shows that they are trying to deceive not only their customers but the government as well.In all I would recommend it to people, but ask for an itemize bill. And don’t leave without getting that...

The Gold Lemon Restaurant (Lemonokipos) Maroni: “Excellent Service and Fresh Fish"

by greekcypriot

I highly recommend this fish tavern for the excellent service, and good quality of anything. The owner of the tavern is an open-hearted lady who was coming every now and then to ask if the food is tasty. This means that she cares for her customers. The price was normal. We had both fried and grilled fish, squid, and octopus marinated in red wine – a Cypriot recipe. A dish of eggs and wild asparagus is a real treat - Cypriot traditional dish never to be forgotten. Everything was fresh and the green salad from the garden.

If you are at the AgroHotel of Ambelikos in Potamitissa, try the grilled fresh trout.Red and white bottled wine is available here from the round region.Ask the owner Mr. Akis and he will give you other alternatives if you are not fond of trout or kalamari. Archways: Classy

by ozalp

This is the peak point of Cyprus cuisine in our trip. We almost tasted every single special mezes on their menu. Some were beyond our imagination; some were beyond our taste limits. It was a beautiful night. Our Cypriot friend was expecting her childhood friends to meet us there. So it turned into a girls’ night. We ate, we drank, we talked, we laughed… And I didn’t forget that place. It is on the way from Kyrenia to Lapta, in Zeytinlik village. We drove in dark village roads until we saw this beautifully lit one storey building surrounded by olive trees. The road is only 15-20 minutes from Kyrenia. The menu was incredibly rich. I’ve tried lots of new mezes here like dried meat and pickled quail eggs. You can see many of the mezes we ate on my photos. I don’t remember all now. We also ate “Seftali Kebab” again, which is never enough for me.By the way, at the entrance there was a tree-like...

Can be found anywhere !: Eating Habits in Cyprus!

by greekcypriot

Cypriots know well how to enjoy life, and this is reflected in their eating habits! There is a variety of restaurants, taverns, cafeterias and bars throughout the island. They can enjoy an exotic International dish or a traditional Cypriot kebab. It’s all at arms reach and offering real value. Highly recommended is Cyprus Meze in a traditional village tavern. What is Meze:It is a large selection of Cypriot dishes, all served in one long indulgent session – an experience not to be missed! You could also enjoy all this at the sounds of local bouzouki, being played live with a good old sing along, by everyone around. This is entertainment…..the Cypriot way!

Dano Bakery: Cakes and pastries

by ozalp

It is a franchised brand, I think. We shopped from several different Dano’s. It’s like a patisserie plus market. We shopped for pastries, generally. They were for our quick breakfasts on the road but they are delicious. Also we bought some Con Coffee as a gift to our families here. Salty pastries for breakfast except the ones with mint

Grand Akpinar Patisserie: Patisserie

by ozalp

This is an old establishment; it’s been founded in 1935. We had our first breakfast here, because our friend recommended. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside under the bright sun and had some grilled halloumi cheese, eggs etc. It was a nice place and it is adjacent to the Kyrenia port and castle.

Bellapais Gardens: Breakfast

by ozalp

We stayed at the summer house of a friend near Kyrenia. So we had our breakfasts in different places, usually on the road with some local pastries. This was our second “proper” breakfast. I use this word, “proper”, just to explain the situation because I do not prefer one to another. Yet eating Cyprus’ halloumi at the breakfast is bliss. We came to Bellapais early in the morning. The monastery was not opened yet. So we had a breakfast here. Our table had a great vista of Kyrenia. We had some cheese, omelet, marmalades, olives and lots of tea. It was boosting.Breakfast wasn’t so special but the place was nice. It is actually a boutique hotel and its restaurant seems very good. I sat in the lobby for a while. There was a fireplace and a rich selection of wines there. You can stop by for a drink here.
